I have began to check out Leica lenses on a NEX-5N. As with other rangefinder wides the question is if the color cast is a problem?

My conclusion: NEX-5N with WATE has so little color cast that in most situations one can ignore it. For critical snow photos Cornerfix will remove any color cast on sides.

It depends on the specific lens and its design.
A lot of wides not only have color cast but also low detail, the further you go from center.

For example, my 28mm M-Hexanon is much better on the GXR than on the NEX, same seems true for the 15mm Heliar.

It depends on lens design and personal tolerance, and both detail smearing and/or color shift can be an issue. I personally use CornerFix even with my ZM 35/2 on the 5N, which has incredible detail at the edges, because, while the color cast is slight, it personally bothers me.

I have compared raws of the same scene with the CV 15/4.5 on both the GXR and 5N. The GXR has a little better edge detail, but the 5N is still pretty good in this regard. Of course, you also have to run the 5N image through CornerFix to deal with the vignetting and color shift, which can be a hassle.

Overall, the GXR is best at the edges, the 5N is a little softer at the edges, and the Nex-7 is showing more detail and color shift problems with various rangefinder wides. Since the difference between the GXR and 5N isn't extreme, I'm currently sticking with the 5N, because of the better EVF and the Hawks helicoid adapter.

I agree. I have found NEX 5N and Leica WATE to require no corner fix. It is a fantastic combination (except for the price of the lens.)
