Hi all,

My Leica X2 only in the bright light (typically outside) makes these chattering noise with the aperture. It looks like the aperture is rapidly changing or adjusting for something. This is happening in any settings even manual.

This is with the latest Leica firmware.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I found that some Fuji cameras had a similar issues and it was resolved with the firmware.

I'd like to post a quick update since this thread has been viewed by many of you.
I have described the issue to Leica support. I sent the email twice and Leica support has not emailed me back or even tried to acknowledge if this is an issue or not.

This is very sad... I would hope that Leica at least be able to confirm that issue.
If anyone of you readers is able to reproduce this please let me know.

This happened a few times with my X1, and is a similar phenomenon as when I use the PanaLeica 25/1.4 on my OM-D. Happens in bright light. I just learned to ignore it - it's annoying but after a while you just forget it's happening.

Leica NJ? Where are you located? You can actually talk to them by phone and I have found Sarah and Carmen to be very good at returning calls and emails.🙂

Personally, I would send it in and let them check it out if you are unhappy with anything about the camera....will be sending in my X1 for a tuneup next month, just because...

The term "chattering" has a connotation that something is bad wrong and terribly annoying. My X1 does not do that. It makes a whirring sound when adjusting at times and that is all. Reminds of the noise from AF lenses.

Takes a while to get used to noise when one is used to MF lenses.😛

If it is a problem, don't expect Leica to give you a diagnosis without seeing and checking out the camera. They will only ask that you send it in.

As an aside, my X1 has absolutely nothing wrong with it although it exhibited a bit of wonkiness with the pad ring on the back a few weeks ago...cleaned it out with a blower and works fine now. Probably not worth sending it in for a checkup.

Thank you all for your comments. I was able to completely disable the back LCD display set the camera to all manual.. the the aperture is still doing the same "chattering noise".

If this is normal, I feel that Leica should just confirm the issue. Instead they choose to ignore my inquiries. I am unable to confirm is this issue is present with the original firmware 1.0, but someone did confirmed that X1 is not doing it, which lets me speculate that it is a firmware bug.
