Hmm, with a normal strap you can eat a burger without putting your camera away, or reach in your pockets for change, or shake hands with somebody, or change a film, or even just have a rest without it being a big camera in bag- camera out of bag scenario. Sticking your fingers in a sling thing is like being glued to your best friend or lover, great for a few minutes but as soon as the realisation comes that its for ever a lot of people will think twice😀

Actually, you have a couple of fingers free if you want to eat a burger (ease up on the ketchup/relish, though, it may drip on the M). Wouldn't shake hands, however - they might try to grab the camera.

Seriously, I've used the Sling from time to time. Your main point is valid - it's great during an active session of shooting, less so for a casual walk around with shots from time to time. For that I like a bandolier-style strap that puts the camera out of the way but handy.

Whats pretty funny with the sling, is that if you put your pinky and ring finger through the loops and let the camera just hang, you have full control of your hand and CAN eat a burger! (or adjust lights, or hold another lens while you swap!) It gives you decent mobility in your thumb and first two fingers. I can even hold my cell phone and talk with the Leica still hanging there.

Y-Strap on the left side, Sling on the right, - good to go IMO

and always easy to let go the camera for other purposes (though I'd never eat a burger or other greasy food 😱 with camera exposed)

Come to think of that...that's right...If I'm eating the camera is either in the bag, or just sitting on the table infront of my plate. I don't think I would ever be eating and shooting at the same time. hehe

Mine is homemade. I pick the softest nylon straps and made it to fit my (fat) fingers. It's also important to know many people complain about the discomfort is caused by the actual width of the strap rather than the size of the loops.

Added a washer to prevent tearing of the nylon strap at the hole, so the camera won't fall through.

BTW, this setup does not prevent you from using a shoulder or neck strap at all. It just makes it easier to carry the camera in your hand. (more secure if you will)

Cost me nothing (I have all the things I need sitting around), and 20 minutes of time. You can certainly try make your own , experiment and decide if you like it or not. I love mine.

Here is what I did. Stich a nylon strip into a loop, and run a hot soldering iron through the middle (doesn't have to be absolute middle, based on your fitting). Burn the edges of the hole so that it will not tear. I added a washer to increase surface area to spread out the load.

There aren't many info/details on the setup. So I took some pictures. Hope this helps.

EDIT: best not to run the hole through where you stich the loop. it's too thick and rigid.
