Can anyone tell me anything about this case? Is there a Leica part number or one of those 5 letter designations?

Hi,

There was one like it on ebay* a while ago with a paper showing where the lenses etc fitted. Or rather there was one with the two pockets in the lid. It (the paper diagram) showed a flash (and CTOOM?) so could be later than the 30's.

I've often wondered about these as the 1930's catalogues don't show them all and often one is listed without a picture of it.

I've also noticed that there appear to be two sub-contractors making them as the buckles etc and fitting of the innards to the outer case varies on the ones I've had.

My main theory is that they went one making them into the early 40's until overtaken by other events and they never put them all into the catalogues. Of course, there might well be a 1940's range of Leitz cases made in the USA (or for the USA) that I've not seen as all my Leitz catalogues are priced in £sd, not USA dollars.

Sorry I can't help.

Regards, David

HI,

I finally remembered where it was and have looked in my July 1935 copy of "Leica Accessories" a little advertising brochure. It lists the ETRIN, ETTWO, ETTRE, ETNEU, ETGUS and ETMAX. They are all shown in photographs except for the ETMAX and so I wondered.

Did a search and got the usual confusion but I'll recommend it just the same as your motivation will be higher than mine. And I'll wish you luck.

Regards, David
