Lens advice please!

i shall be visiting switzerland and prague shortly for vacation ( wife wants training for climbing the matterhorn! ), I shall sensibly ( for me ) stay in the valleys!

i shall be carrying 2 x M8

the lens choice is between the following:

cv 15/4.5, zm 25/2.8, cron 28 asph, 35 cron asph, lux 50 asph, cron 75 asph and the elmarit-m 90/2.8.

if i am pushed 4 lens max...ideally 3 with the lux 50 a must for me.

your advice and suggestions shall be gratefully received.

Hi Faris,

unless she wants to do its North wall, the Matterhorn is not too difficult to climb. Spend a day or two in Saas Fee or Zermatt and maybe do a smaller mountain first, to adjust to the height before you go up.

Regarding the lenses, I would just take 28 and 50, maybe add the 15 since it's so small. Both fast and sharp - so you can use them for interiors (like in Prague) or landscapes.

Thanks for your advice. We have been to zermatt previously and this time she booked a week's course with some outfit based in leysin. While she is gone I shall be driving to small places ( couch potato ).

I too was thinking about the 15/28/50, but was unsure if a little longer
fl would be wise to carry?

Much more than I have ever done :) (My highest so far is the Dufour Spitze).

It's really pretty over there right now, and if you have a car, you might also consider driving down to the lake (Montreux). Good food, nice people, both in the Vallais and in Prague - although the beer in Prague is better :) Saas Fee is car free, and watch for speeding tickets in CH.

I myself am a fan of longer lenses for landscapes, but I thought that was less common. The Elmarit is one of the sharpest Leica lenses so I would take it if I were you and leave the 15 at home.

Come on, can't do Switzerland without a 90mm to compress mountain landscapes as well as a CV15 for extensive points of you.
The rest is less important, let's say 28 and 50 (if you really need it ...) ;)

I would say 15/28/50, unless you want some portrait of your wife.. ;)

Montreux is on my route map and in my gps! so is Gstaad. I wont be carrying all the lenses/cameras with me at one time. In the car or in
the hotel.

If you want pictures of your wife climbing the 90mm would be the most helpful. It is also good for mountain tops. I was just out west and found a 135mm very useful.

Lausanne is my hometown. It is definitely worth a visit be it by the lake or downtown. When you go from there to Montreux, don't take the highway, drive by the smaller wineyard roads over lake Geneva where you will find some of the most amazing panoramas in the world. ;) A wide angle is definitely needed as well as the 90mm ;)
