lens board question

It depends.

The shutter determines the opening size. Different shutters require different size holes.

If the shutter is a newer, standarized Copal, then the hole sizes are easy to find. There are 3 sizes: 0, 1 & 3. GOOGLE knows.

Other, older shutters are different.

The above applies to ALL view camera lens in shutter assemblies. Rodenstock is not unique in that regard. I own a Nikkor lens in Copal #1 and a Fujinon lens in a Copal #0. My Kodak lens is in a Kodak shutter. Fortunately, it is the same size as a Copal #0. That isn't always the case.

There are two ways used to mount the shutter on the lensboard. Older wood boards usually had flanges attached to them with screws. Thith metal boards and some wood boards there is a retaing ring that screws onto the shutter from behind. You can also use flange the same way, acting as a retaining ring.

Now if you were referring to the focal length to choose, that's another thing. Press photographer used mostly 135mm or 127mm lenses. They gave about the same angle of view as a 35mm lens on 35mm film.

for portraits something in the 180 to to 210mm range will be best.
