Lens Carrier M for M-Series Cameras

Does this work with Zeiss Ikon? In any case, is this item really useful?

I have the lens carrier and it is only useful for "small" lenses, IMHO. If you have a Summicron 35 and 50 for example, you can easily swap lenses and don't add to much weight to your camera. The lens carrier M fits only to M-film Leicas (the M8 is 2 mm thicker so not suitable)

Dunno if it fits a ZI but I got rid of mine because it adds too much bulk and weight to an M. You REALLY feel it in the neck after a few hours. Stick the lens in a pocket or belt-pouch.

I had one, and reluctantly sold it when I got my Rapidgrip. I liked it, but I agree it is only suitable for small lenses. It was a good alternative to a small bag when travelling light - pockets are not always the answer - a 50mm can ruin the cut of your suit.

It extended the depth of the body, making for a better grip, and you could also use it as an impromptu tabletop tripod. When I had it I drilled a hole in a Leica body-cap and fitted that with a tripod socket; voila, an instant Quick Release Plate. I used this combo for some time, particularly with a stringpod, and it certainly worked.

Currently I am on the lookout for a Benser baseplate for my M2...

I gave my last suit away 20 years ago, but I vaguely recall telling my tailor (in the days when I did wear suits) that I liked to carry things in the pockets, and his cutting the suit accordingly.

It's amazing, in particular, what you can get into waistcoat pockets (I only ever wore 3-piece suits).

Funnily enough, Roger, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have a bespoke suit (from Weatherill) that had a pocket tailored exactly to my mobile 'phone at the time, not at my request, but at the tailor's suggestion. I shall never forget him measuring my 'phone.

Of course, things being as they are, the suit is now five years old and still as good as the day it was made, and I am on my 7th new 'phone, which is about a third of the size of what I had then...😛

I agree on waistcoats, too. I have one from Orvis, that I think is no longer made. It is not one of their rather militaristic looking fishing ones, but is made of heavy duty cotton with leather trim, and can be worn under a jacket without looking out of place. It has a remarkable seven pockets, with the two outside being deep and strong enough to hold up to a 90mm Elmarit-M with ease. I have used it many times to carry a fair amount of kit with a degree of discretion.
