Lens carrying system

I was selecting some lenses for a trip and wondering how best to store them in my bag. I got to thinking that a system like the (bad) mockup below would be a really nice way to keep them from banging about and make them easily accessible. Basically, three rear lens caps screwed/glued to a board. Voila - your lenses can now slide into a photo compartment.

Thoughts? done before? I'm thinking of using it for my Paxette lenses (35/50/90/135mm)

I'd be bothered by all the wasted space between and around the lenses, and the fact that the compartment would need to be big enough to accommodate your largest lens sideways.

Leica used to make back-to-back m-mount lens caps so you could stack a couple of lenses together. So if you could rig up something like this for LTM then you yo'd be able to leave the 50 on the camera, stack the 35 and 90 back-to-back and put them and the 135 into two thinner compartments next to each other.

My dad used to have a Nikon bag with three or four bayonet mounts secured to the floor of the bag, along with space for a Nikon F with lens mounted. That was back in the 1970's. It was his favorite bag, even though it was a bit bulky and certainly not hip-hugging.

This is a good idea. I had the one that Leica used to make; being only plastic, they wear out and get loose, just like any other. Replacing them from time to time with ones from Amazon or elsewhere is good insurance against dropping a lens on the pavement.

Experience has taught me that it's a very, very rare occasion that I'll use more than two lenses while out photographing. If you have an old fashioned lens case that can be attached to your camera strap, the issue is solved. Otherwise, I keep the other lens in my backpack/whatever bag I'm using.

For what it is worth Leitz made back to back caps for 'R' and I think 'M' but not for 'LTM'.

When it comes to carrying things a lifetime of lugging stuff around has finally pushed me into the 'less is more' camp.
