Canon LTM Lens for Canon IV SB2

Going to put my first roll through a Canon IV SB2 and figured I should use a Canon lens on it. But which one? What would you choose... and why?

Any would be fine. I love my 50/1.4 and the sonnar look of the 1.5 is always beautiful. The 1.8 has always been a lovely lens as well. The only one I don't really know is the 1.2.

I'd probably end up starting with the 50/1.4 just because it's so good.

50/1.5 all day. That and the 1.8 Chrome are proper for the camera and very good. The 1.5 is a wonderful sonnar design. Both lenses are prone to haze so be sure of the condition before you buy.

Mine came with the 1.5, but it was all hazed up, so Im sticking with the 1.8 or 1.9 I have.

If low light or bokeh aren't what you will be shooting, go with the classic f/1.8. It is so handy that way, looks great and should get the images you want.

Thanks everyone so far. The IV SB2 came with the 1.8 so it might be the original pairing. The others are my lenses. 1.5 is leading in the voting so I may go with that. Just cleaned it recently too.

Mine came with the 1.5, but it was all hazed up, so Im sticking with the 1.8 or 1.9 I have.

If you have a lens spanner ($20ish dollars) the 1.5 is super easy to open up to clean the haze out. You can find videos on youtube to show how. Basically take the ring out of the back of the lens and it open into two parts. Unscrew the rear element to get to the glass closest to the aperture and then clean that. First time might take 15 minutes. The 1.2 is the same way.

Curiously, I haven’t had to do this on the 1.4 or dream lens. Have not owned the 1.8 long enough to see if it does this.

I would recommend the f1.5 or f1.8. I think that the f1.4 and f1.2 are too big to fit a small frame like the IV sb2. I also agree with shawn, the f1.5 is very easy to partially disassemble and clean, of course this is also true for a lot of Canon RF lenses

I think I'd start with the 1.2, then when my arms got tired of carrying it around all the others would seem so light they couldn't take a bad shot.

I have a IV SB2 and the 50/1.8 that was on it when my mother in law bought it new, so I'd say that's the logical choice--the one it was born with. It's actually a great lens--has surprised me! I have a clean 50/1.4 and that one's meh for my taste. I have never known the 50/1.5, but sounds like an interesting and authentic dressing for the front, also.

Lens on first roll on unknown camera is irrelevant since all are 50ties. The only relevant thing is lens to be known as aligned for RF focusing. So, choose one of this kind... if any...

The haze on mine ended up being etched to the glass.
