Lens Hood for 28mm on M8

I have just ordered a 28mm f2 Summicron M ASPH and am wondering if I need to buy a lens hood? Len hoods do not seem to be very effective on wide-angle lens, but as this will be used on an M8, the focal length will be 37,24mm. I assume that the lens hood for the lens will be for the un-cropped 28mm.

What do you people think?

You can always try out a generic 35 mm hood as soon as you have the camera.Heavystar sells hoods in all shapes and sizes.

The lens hood for the 35mm ASPH Summilux will fit and lock onto the 28mm Summicron. The hood's a lot smaller and it's slip-on cover more convenient than the original. I use the hood on the 28mm with the R-D1. Since the equivalent focal length of the 28mm on the M8 is 37mm there should be no vignetting. It's what I'll be using.

I agree with Bob, I'll be using the hood from my 35 Lux ASPH on both lenses.

FYI - The 28 Cron ASPH comes with its own hood as part of the package. It is bigger than the one on the 35 Lux ASPH. I will therefore be using the smaller 35 hood. Like Bob, I don't anticipate any issues since EFOV is 37 on the M8 for the 28.

Thanks Alan. I used a Canon 1D mkII N with 35, 135 & 300 lens, which I have sold to fund my M8. The Canon worked just fine, but was too heavy and attracted too much attention. Also it was a bit like a point and shoot camera, apart from composition you just pointed the camera and pressed the shutter and the camera did the rest. For me all of the automatic features just took the fun away.

When using the CV 28mm Color Skopar on the R-D1, I found out that the CV LH-2 hood (for 35/2.5 C, 35/1.7 Ultron, 50/2.5) offers a bit more flare protection than the standard round hood, though I prefer this one for it's compactness. I guess any suitable aftermarket 35/50mm hood might work on the Summicron 28/M8.
