lens hood for 5cm 1.5

I lost today at the beaches my beautiful Walz push-on square lens hood for most of my 50mm lenses. I am still shocked!

Which lens hood would work well with the vintage 5cm 1.5?
 
I would get one of those screw-in hoods from eBay seller HEAVYSTAR. Either the vented or non-vented version. Inexpensive, they do the trick and if you lose one, no big deal.
 
I haven't seen any 40.5 solid hoods recently, the vented ones are pretty common, though they seem to be a bit wide. I haven't had them but the camplus-roxsen ones look good to me.

I need a 40.5 hood too, I have one of these, it's 1" deep including threads, and 2 1/8" in diameter. I was thinking I would simply get a 40.5 to 46mm step up ring which are pretty common on epay. Haven't decided.

I use the rubber hood for the Minolta 40 CLE. I also have a metal copy of the proper Zeiss hood but like the Minolta hood more due to its convenience.
 
Raid, the one from HEAVYSTAR works well enough. I got the vented hood with cap for my Franken-Zeiss.
 
I use the heavystar hoods as well, especially on my "converted Sonnars". They are nice, but agree that the finish on the Walz is beautiful.

So, two of three Franken-Sonnar users on this thread go with Heavystar.
 
Yea, Heavystar hoods because they work on my pre war CZJ 50/1.5 and if I loose one no tears.

Vintage Voigtländer 310/41 40.5mm screw-in hood (originally designed for the Vitessa) :
  • beautifully made
  • narrow enough so that you don't see it in the viewfinder although it's not vented
  • much more efficient than any generic hood (deeper and closer to the lens field of view edges) to keep oblique light rays away from the lens front element
  • screw-in not push-on (won't get lost and won't marr the lens nose)
  • very easy to grab off eBay.
 
Actually any hood not getting in the lens field of view would do the job properly (but for hoods designed for wides, pretty useless on a 50mm).

As for generic Chinese hoods (sold by Heavystar or another seller, they're all the same stuff) the recent tilted & vented hoods (copies of the Leitz 12585 one) are way better made than the cylindric first series (they're now machined from one lone piece of aluminum, not tapered any longer) and a bit more efficient in terms of actual lens shading.

The original Zeiss hoods for the Sonnars (either prewar or postwar, were they crackled black paint over brass, bakelite or aluminum finish) aren't too difficult to locate but they get so much into the camera viewfinder that rather not using them in the field.

I will try to quickly get a well fitting hood before my Cairo trip. The CZJ 5cm 1.5 is my chosen lens for the trip.

Actually, my hood was not by Walz but by Franka.

I am still mad at myself for losing the lens hood. It would go from 50mm lens to 50mm lens, as I change lenses over time. Someone at RFF sold it to me.
 
If you like push-on hoods (which I don't because they get lost and marr the lenses' noses) do a quick search using "42mm hood" on eBay, you'll find many.
