Lens hood for IIIs

Picked up a Retina IIIs at the flea market a few weeks ago. It's in excellent condition & I really enjoy shooting with it.

The body only came with a neverready case. No lens cap or filter or anything else. I'd like to find something to protect the lens in case I drop the camera. Was thinking a lens hood would do the trick, but I'm not sure what to get. The lens is a Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenon 50mm/2.8 & it seems to have a really weird bayonet filter mount. Any suggestions on what hood I should buy? I'm thinking a series hood of some sort, but I have no idea what to look for.

I'd agree with the usefulness of a lens hood, but for flare prevention, not drop prevention. For drop prevention I'd recommend a decent strap.

I'm thinking more of the hood protecting the lens while it's in my bag. What I really need to know is what size hood to buy.

A32 sounds like some sort of a weird bayonet size 😉

I have the Retina IIc with the same listed lens but I can not state that it is the same size lens. The hood that I have only reads "Kodak 50mm." I picked it up off the auction site with search for a lens hood for that camera. It has a "strange" mounting whereby you put it on crooked and turn it until it is straight. It is slightly rectangular.

Yeah, I think A32 is the mount, which must be a weird one cause I'd never of it before.

Guess I ought to do a search on Retina lens hood at ePrey and see what comes up.

I wouldn't swear to it, but after looking at the "CaptJack" site it looks like that "A32" is the same as for the Retina II/IIIc, as Steve Beyer said. If so, they are seen on ebay fairly frequently, although I looked just yesterday for one and only found a rather overpriced offering. I can't remember how much I last paid but around $20 comes to mind. Be patient and you'll find one.

I also have a IIIS and use the bayonet mount hood. They turn up regularly on eBay, don't usually cost too much, and fit both the 50/2.8 and the 35/2.8. And with a little (and hard-to-find) press-on extension, they also work for the 85/4.

One advantage of the IIIS bayonet mount hood is the speed with which it mounts and dismounts. You get into action faster and it also speeds up changing filters.
