lens hood for Summarit 50

I have several questions; 1) does the Summarit 50 need a lens hood, (Puts feels that it does). 2) Is the only choice the $150 metal version or are there cheaper versions out there? These lenses are a pretty good deal right now with the rebates. There is not a lot of chances to play with these lenses in Singapore
