Lens hood options for the Summitar 5cm f2

This is the Tiffen aftermarket hood that was made especially for the Summitar. I don't know how hard they are to find, but I remember it being cheap. They also made a screw in cap.

David do you use a filter..?
Having just checked both of my Summitar's (1949 & 50), I notice the Summicron (12585 and IROOA) hood's lock into the groove between the filter and the lens.
I have a similar groove 4mm in, but with my barndoor hood being a clamp on type that groove seems superfluous.

I'm one of the anti-filter brigade. Although I ought to have a pale green one for the clouds with FP4.

I guess there are three types of barndoor hood for the Summitar and - as usual - I've the wrong one. So much for compatibility...

Looking for my 12585 hood I found one that looked right and will try it. It's the rectangular plastic one by KMZ and was on an Industar-61 on the FED-2.

The KMZ one is a nominal 42mm and the Summitar would take a 41·3mm slip-on, so I should be OK. I'll have to pad it out with a bit of self adhesive black felt; so I'll scrounge a used cassette and recycle the light trap...

Also, FWIW, I've a photocopy of the original Summitar leaflet in the collection and (A) the milled rim doesn't have the groove in it and (B) there's a lot of 5cm filters mentioned for it but no lens hood. That doesn't surprise me, you seldom see them mentioned in old literature.

Regards, David

I use a 125O75 ( IUFOO ). I just cut the forward part off and i have a IROOA🙂 You can find them cheaper and it works.

I use the heavystar adapter and hood and it is great.
Excellent price as well.

You can get a wonderfully inexpensive adapter ring designed specifically for the summitar from the eBay seller Heavystar. The ring screws directly into the Summitar's beveled filter thread. You are then able to use any 39mm threaded hood. I use the vented round hood sold by Heavystar. If I remember correctly, the adapter ring and hood each sell in the ballpark of $25 each. And they look great too!
