I don't know if this is the right forum for this or not. I'm looking for a source for loose lens mounts for Nikon and for M39 bodies. I'm toying with the idea of building a lens or two and am looking for a way to mount them to my nikon film cameras, perhaps a nikon digital and to my FED (knowing the FED RF will be a crap shoot right from the start). Does anyone know of a supply house or source for just the rear mount off the lens(es) in question? I've thought about cheap extension tubes, which would also have the advantage of becoming an ersatz lens barrel, but which would also limit the diameter of the lens. Any help would be appreciated, particularly from folks who've attempted this before. Thanks in advance.

I have made a Leica SM lens from an Instamatic lens, and used a Leica to T mount adapter.

I also made a Leica SM with Leica SM to Pentax SM adapter, with this one I used a disposable camera lens. I quit on this one; the disposable camera lens was too good.

I have 3-4 lenses made using body caps too, the best is a Brownie Hawkeye Flash lens on a Pentax 6x7 body cap.

This is the Instamatic lens on a BessaR:

Thanks. Those are all great ideas. Like I said, just starting the thought process on this project/idea. I'll look in to those ideas and any more that come up and keep everyone posted on my progress.
John, scavenging old camera lenses hadn't occurred to me, but I like the idea. I was looking at lenses from surplus shed as a starting point, but you've given me a new avenue to pursue. Have you tried any of the lenses you've made on a digital yet? Are they focusable, or are you sticking with the idea of fixed focus? So many questions, so little time!

I like that!. It has almost a pastel, painter-ly feel to it. Do you think that's from the lens or did you do that in post? Whichever, it works.

ebay is your friend when looking for camera parts. There is a lot of broken and repair related camera stuff on there. I buy interesting things all the time that I often don't know what to do with yet.

For the OP, I've done a bunch of this. Here are my solutions:

1. Take a body cap and make a hole in it.

2. Explore 52mm screw-in solutions. Metal filter stacking cap, the female side, make a hole in it. Mount to your camera using Nikon BR-2a. Or a male 52mm metal lens cap, mount to the camera using a Nikon K-ring set.

3. Buy a cheap Nikon fit extension tube set, a BR-2a, or anything with the lens side of the mount. Adapt that mount to your lens.

4. Buy busted "parts only" lens on eBay, take off the lens mount.

Here's one example, described in this thread.
