Hi,

I need to remove the lens mount from my Rokkor 40mm to have it 6-bit coded and file the bayonnet lug to bring up the 35mm frame lines in the M8. Does anyone have suggestions for how best to do this? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

-J.

You don't have to remove the lens mount to file the bayonet lug. The 35mm frame line is the default position so taking off a bit too much metal will have no effect. Hold the camera facing you without the lens. On the right hand side of the opening you'll see where the bayonet lug on the lens pushes the gizmo. If you move the frame selector lever you'll see this thing moving up and down. What you want to do is file the lug on the lens just enough so that lug doesn't push against it. The first stroke or two of the file it's cutting chrome, which is hard. Once you get down to brass it cuts easily.

Somebody else will have to explain the coding thing.

Thanks Al. That sounds rather trivial actually.

I'm planning on sending the mount to John Milich for the coding aspect of the job and only need to remove the mount before doing so.

It sounds as though filing down the bayonnet lug is better done with the lens intact.
