Lens Pouches?

Hi folks,

As I slowly amass my arsenal of lenses I'm beginning to note, with a bit of concern, that it might be handy to have pouches for them.

Why is that you might ask? Well, I'm using a LowePro Lynx160 bag in which I carry my camera and lenses. The lenses for the RF (Bessa R3A) are small when compared to any of my SLR lenses and I can easily stash an entire collection of them into this bag. It already holds everything just fine and has room to spare.

But because the lenses are so small they, inevitably, "bump" each other a bit whilst in the bag. I was hoping to find some pouches of sorts that I could place the lenses into prior to putting them into the bag.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This was discussed recently. I use dollar store microfiber cloths and just wrap the lense. Some other RFF'rs mentioned having grandma knit some lense socks/mittens.

The Domke (or other brand) lens wraps have been on my list of to gets for the same reason. They fold around the lens and velcro closed.

I recently liberated a drawstring pouch from Mrs. Cbass's makeup drawer to use as a travel cover for my Bessa R. Works great. Look around your domicile...you'll probably find something you can adapt for lens pouch use.

I have the viewfinder for my CV 21mm lens in one of my son's socks, a little toddler sock.

I scored a couple of pouches at a camera show in Omaha a couple of years ago for $1 each. They're about leather, 6'' X 3", with a suede leather lining sewn in, and a double drawstring top closure. They're perfect for RF lenses--my 90mm Apo-Lanthar fits nice and snug & my 50mm Summitar is happy when they're in my camera bag.

Unfortunately, they have no name and the only label in one says MADE IN CHINA, which is no help. I've looked and looked, but never have seen anything like them again. So the beast you're hoping to find does exist, but is very rare.

In the meantime, if you have any sewing talent (or if you can con someone), you can make some simple pouches by taking some strips of felt or other heavy cloth about 12" X 4", folding it over the long way, stitching up the sides, and putting in a Velcro top closure.

I'd see what your local camera store has in its junk section. My local camera store had a box of new-old-stock neoprene Ricoh p&s camera pouches that hey were willing to part with for $1 each. I cut them down so that they fit the lens without taking up any more bag space then necessary. I was able to trim them in a way that I could use the existing velcro closure to wrap the lens and secure the pouch.

I use Crown Royal pouches. Easy and fun to acquire.

I catched some Contax pouches made for the G-Series lenses from an internet shop. 9 Euro each (new) were a good price for these.

My wife Frances Schultz makes pouches out of (real) chamois leather, with drawstrings. Not commercially: just for us. You could try bribing her...

For my lenses outdoors, I use a belt pouch around my stomach - an area not prong to shake. Within it each lens goes with respective hood and back cap - no way to glass damage.

As a bonus, this is the quickest way to exchange lens.
