Lens Recognition Issue - Good on A7 but no on NEx3

Hi All,

Curious issue. I have a A7 and a Nex 3.

I recently acquired a simple 16-50 Sony e mount to use for quick shooting, street shooting, etc.

The weird thing is that it functions perfectly on the A7 but as soon as I mount it on the Nex 3, it doesn't respond.

I double checked all the settings. "Shoot without lens" is enabled.

Contacts all seem clean and the mount is tight.

Any thoughts?

I don't see a reason why the 16-50 wouldn't respond on the NEX3, even though the NEX3 is an older camera than that lens. Maybe one thing you could check is whether you have the most up-to-date firmware on the NEX3: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/downloads/W0007242

There is a lens compatibility page on the 16-50, and it lists the NEX3 as compatible:

This may be the reason. That setting is for non Sony glass.

That is most definitely not the reason. That setting allows shooting without having a lens that is recognized by the camera attached, but it certainly does not block shooting with a lens.

if OP is still struggling with this, he could try factory reset the camera to start it from scratch. would be odd if it still don't recognize the lens.

Nex3 is pretty old also by now, there can be a hardware problem.
