Is there a shade for the Sonnar 1.5 that does not intrude into the viewfinder of a Contax IIa camera. I am going without these days but I can't help thinking that the lens really needs one. I know there are many inexpensive vented shades on ebay these days but I would like something that does not obscure the viewfinder … Thanks

I use this on Jupiter 3 and Nikkor 5cm/2 (both 40.5mm filter threads) and can recommend it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360843800407. The other option is a small series 6 hood as Kodak made them, for instance.

I use one similar to the one ferider linked except it has slots specifically for the blocked viewfinder issue on rangefinders.
I think Heavystar the same eBay seller has them I forget but look around. They are all over and cheap also.

I have tried 2 so far and this one looks good and obscures a only small part of the image. It is vented with 6 slim struts. I tried one similar to the leica design available on eBay. It is also nice but has only 3 struts that are 10mm wide, these intrude if your point of focus puts them in the line of sight, 12 feet and 5 feet in my case.

Of course the original Zeiss Ikon Stuttgart shade S1119 was designed for the 50mm Sonnars. I have one and it is visible in the viewfinder but I guess the original Zeiss engineers didn't think it was that much of a problem. These satin chrome finished shades are beautiful and go for some $$$ in nice condition. Mine came out of the original box and tissue.
