I have recently acquired a black Leotax 40.5mm lens hood. The puzzling part is there are no screw threads on the rear and the opening is too small to slip over my Topcor 50/2 and 50/1.5 lenses which take 40.5mm filters. I have seen this hood in the past mounted on a Topcon or Fuji lens and I'm wondering am I missing a mounting ring or someother way of using this hood on these lenses? The designation on the hood does indicate 5cm F/2 or 2.8.

Likely missing the clamping screw.

There was only one Topcor 5cm f2.8 made for Leotax screw mount cameras, and that lens takes 34mm filters, and Tokyo Kogaku made a dedicated hood for that lens. Also, most, if not all, of the screw mount Topcor 5cm f2 lenses have 40.5mm filter rings. Fuji also made 5cm Fujinon f2.8 and f2 lenses in screw mount, and they have 40.5mm and 43mm filter rings, respectively. So, it seems weird that there is a Leotax hood for 5cm f2 or f2.8 lenses, unless there was an adapter ring to go with it.
Is your hood branded "Leotax" or "Showa Kogaku" or "Topcor"?
Cheers,
David

Hi David,
This is a branded "Leotax" black lens hood which states as engraving: 1:2.8,
1:2 f=5cm =40.5 Japan. My supposition is there is a missing slip on clamp or someone ground off the 40.5 screw threads. The opening is approx. 38mm.
Regards,
Gary

Gary,
Based on what is written on the hood, I guess that Showa made the hood during the (late) period that Leotax's were shipping with either Tokyo Kogaku or Fuji lenses, since the 40.5mm would fit the Fujinon 5cm f2.8 and the Topcor 5cm f2/f1.8 lenses. Too bad you can't use it right now.
Cheers,
David

I've shared this with hilltime. Just to share with everybody here, this is my version of my hood. It is a screw-on type for E40.5 lenses.
For E43 filter thread, (Fujinon5.0cmf2 lens), it's a clamp-on, thus diameter, Ø is 45:
