In the thread on how much we're spending on photo gear, Bill Mattocks said:

"Bidding:
Bidding on: 0
Winning: 0
Winning cost: $0.00
Won:
Quantity: 11
Amount: $154.93 (Last 60 days)

And that's only because a) got the tax return and b) bought a couple of camera/photography books. Total spent on camera gear is about $30 per month. Less than cigarettes used to cost me."

This could be the key to what is going on in this forum. How many ex-smokers? How many trying to quit? Have we traded one compulsion for another? Is there a patch for the problem?

I quit the damn things twenty four years ago less a day (i.e. quit day was March 18, 1981).

Back they, a pack of cancer sticks cost less than a roll of film.

Now they cost signficantly more!

Want to preserve it and yourself? Quit smoking and buy lots of film with the savings! 😉
