I like that paint job, and the blue badge on the finder sets it off well.

My new (to me) M4-P w/Canon 0.95 m-mount
My new (to me) M4-P w/Canon 0.95 m-mount
I'm on a mission to figure out which of the M's best carries my 0.95. I think this is the one!! Frame lines remain bright and the rangefinder is completely unobstructed. Even the viewfinder shows only about 5% blocked. Weight distribution is good and it can be easily removed because the release button still has clearance from the back of the lens.
This M4 was pretty ugly when I got it this afternoon, but a rigorous cleaning (to remove the shoe polish, dirt, hand grub and other unmentionables) turned this into a real beauty. The original reason for selling was a "jammed shutter" which turned out to be a broken advance knob.

M4-P is a workhorse ...
Slap whatever lens on it, load some Tri-X and ready for shooting.

M3 heavily modified
M3 heavily modified
Just got myself a unique specimen from haagen_dazs in the classifieds. I decided to test out the strobes last night and photograph my Leicas for you fine folks. Here are a few of the M3 first.
- 1955 M3 mechanism and top plate, converted from DS to SS.
- M4-P shell and winder spool.
- Don Goldberg modified to take M6 winder and replaced viewfinder with an M2 35/50/90.
- Repainted black enamel by Shintaro Yaginuma in Japan
More to come...

Here is a few more shots of the M3 with the new black paint Leicavit M I just picked up from Photo Village. Also a detail of the spool.
Should I post more detailed shots or should I just link to my flickr? What do you want to see? less? more?

That is one stunning machine. Is that spool indicative of an M3 modified to quick load?

Ron: As far as I know it is not. I have never owned and M3 before (although shot them, but never with the quickload). I'm sure someone else will be able to better describe the quickload, but this is the spool of the M4-P. Or perhaps when it was modified it came from a different camera, but it's of that style anyway.

I have already put a few rolls through it. With all of the modifications it is begging to be shot. Someone didn't make it easier to load IMO so that I can set it on a shelf. I have nice cameras, but I do my best to keep them off the shelf.

Atom, that is for sure a stunning conversion ! Looks pretty cool
About the take-up spool, I had a "normal" M3 before and and an original Leica quickload-kit and that take-up spool looked different from yours (which looks like the standard tulip found in Leicas from the M4 on)

This is not the quick load kit but a spool from a M4-P I believe. I have own a few quick load kits for my M2 and M3 and they improve greatly the film loading. Of course yours one is even better. By the way, a beautiful modification the camera is.
I have recently seen a black 0.85 MP in ebay modified to take a black M3 top. It results in a black paint M3 with metering. I didn't manage to get it as it was desparately grabbed by other bidders. Very beautiful stuff.

I was really GASing over the MP3 when it came out, this is my equivalent. (lack of a meter doesn't bother me in the slightest)
