Time for a small update, got the leicameter in the mail today (thanks ray_g for the deal) and bought another elmar 59mm 2,8 (new type) since i was so enormously clever to drop the black M6 w/50mm elmar in the pavement some weeks ago, this is how it goes when you take "wrong" jacket for a walkabout, the schott parka is nice, but have slippy shoulders. Now the black M6 and the elmar is in solms, Germany for a status rapport, and then my insurance company do their part of the job ..
just 2-3 months to wait then.

My CRR "enamelled"/ repainted (& re-shuttered) button-rewind M2 has just collected it's first user's ding, just west of the frame counter... before being repainted the chrome was already brassing through- one of it's former owners was a NY based photojournalist.

It actually looks shorter in the picture, it is longer in actual ...It can be a bit embarassing in the streets, when my camera is hanging in front of me near the crotch area ... at any rate, I use the 35mm / 50mm 90% of the time outside.
Nonetheless, I just love the perspective of a long lens for portraits, whether on the leica, hasselblad or a dslr.

Ha ha ... it's really tiny, compared to my other cameras' big ones ...
I agree it is ridiculous if one cares how one looks in the streets. I tried to be hardcore and not go beyond 50mm, but it just doesn't work for me. The 135 (or 90mm) is a tool that I want for certain pictures. This is what is important to me, and it's cheap compared to other Leitz lenses.
And I'm not into Leicas because of their name, or looks, or rangefinder ... it's the superb B&W negatives !
I also think 90mm with the hood is ridiculous to look at on the streets mounted on a small Leica M. It doesn't bother me of course, I couldn't care less, but I'm sure it bothers some who are more worried at how they will look rather than worry about getting pictures.
At any rate, my favorite is 35mm and 50mm, up close and personal, which is what I believe rangefinders are meant for the most. 28mm and below is too intrusive for me, I need to get as close as 1 meter to get a decent sized person in the composition, and they'll hear the shutter click too, and I'm no sprinter
90mm and 135mm are for special uses, definitely not even ideal for the street shooting focusing methods - infinity, zone, hyperfocal distance ...

Here's my 1955 M3, purchased used in 1972...
...wow, take me back? I was in 9th grade, saved and saved and saved. Wanted the other M3 the dealer had, which didn't have the meter skid marks on the top plate, but couldn't afford it. It came with a 1954 collapsible Summicron that I've misplaced somewhere around the housebang: ) I added a Leicameter M, which served me better than most today would believe, and a 12575 shade that took my breath away when I was told what it would cost.
Over the years, I added a rapid load kit, the frameline preview lever and the Camian rapid rewind lever. I recently gave up on the vulcanite and recovered it with Cameraleather's "Griptac," which is a very close visual match for the vulcanite and is a perfect functional match. The camera has also had trips to Rockleigh, DAG and (most recently) Youxin Ye. (Thanks, Youxin!)
It's proudly wearing a Dual Ranage Summicron from the final run (serial no. 23572xx), which seems a good match as some kind of quintessential Leica outfit.
I have had many other M bodies and lenses come and go and come again, but this one has stayed.
