Avotius, I don't know what way of seeing means in photography. I do know what it means to see things as say a parent or as worker. I will have to look into this, it sounds very interesting. Maybe my photo skills will finally improve.

There are a few reason why my old ltm 50mm 3.5 elmar doesn't fit me too well. The aperture ring is a pain in the neck when you need to change fast which happens with me a lot because I shoot street. Second it is pretty slow, although 2.8 isn't a whole lot better, I do think 2.8 is where the big drop off where bokeh really starts, and even though I usually shoot at f8, you can never have enough speed. Also the infinity lock and focus tab annoy me and doesn't help much for my street shooting because the tab rotates so far for focusing. I like to clean lenses if I need to and I have never had the guts to touch the front element of this lens with anything because I know its really really soft. And finally I cant stick filters on the lens because they are hard to find and I use filters.

Many thanks for the reviews. That gem-like quality & beauty-as-object is what drew me in- that and Mr. Puts review which praised the sharpness. Appears that the bonus is going to be the 'old' look I've been lusting after. My hope is that this will be the lens I carry all the time, when I'm not specifically 'out shooting', in the daily bag, probably on the M7 or M6 (I'm guessing it won't go on my M5). The small size here is the key, as I find even the Summicron or Hexanon too big to slip in and out of the bag easily enough. I'm a 50mm shooter most of the time.
In looking at the design from a shooters perspective, I think that I'll like this very much, the gap in the barrel when open should make handling such a small item much easier than the 40 Summicron which is just too small for me as a quick shooter, I find myself fumbling with it more often than not, even after shooting almost nothing but the 40 for two weeks in an attempt to overcome this.
So, hood appears small, but is adequate? With hood & collapsed is this much smaller than the Summicron? Collapse sort of seems like an unfortunate term to describe this lens- for me collapse brings memories of complete mental & physical exhaustion- will I be driven to shoot this much??

After giving it some thought I find that I disagree with the statement: And if you really want to achieve a soft look for a particular shot, slap on the appropriate filter and you'll get it. I'm not sure that's the same thing. For me images from my Elmars 90 & 50 and Summar can evoke a similar feeling to viewing a Zen rock garden or other zen art. I'm sure that sounds pretty 'far-out' but that's one of the things that attracts me to Leica photography. JimG
