A very dark picture of a recent acquisition. One Electro 35 GSN. Looks to be in great condition. I need to get a battery and manufacture an adapter

Really interested to see what it can do. Had some trouble with an Yashica SLR recently; So many lightleaks from bad foam after all these years. ;)

talk about eye candy...

the black Yashicas sure are things of beauty. :)

edit: your GSN looks awesome too, Mr. Flibble. congrats. :)

Thanks guys. Bought my GX yesterday. Apparently the guy who used it before me stacked like 2*5V of batteries in it, thought it didn't work right so I got it for cheap. I put in some 1.5V batteries and filled the gap with tinfoil, seems to work ok now.

Someone using a GL?

Do they have more reliability problems than other Yashicas?
Is its lens worse than those on other Yashica bodies?
If it's the only one going to 1600, and has a meter that compensates for filters, why isn't it as usual as other models?
Any other comments?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Juan

Juan, I don't have one but I think scarcity is the simple reason why more people don't use them or talk about them here. I have not seen one come up on ebay for anything close to a reasonable price although as I write this I had a quick search and seems there is one there right now albeit with a reserve price not reached.

Agfa Sillete cases, eh? I'll be on the lookout for some of those. They do look very nice with the black Yashicas. Thanks!

Recently I have been selling GL cameras at the auction site. I have one listed now, and hope to be able to keep some on hand. The GL is not common, even here in Japan, and about half of them had the battery left in them, which corroded the electronics to junk. I recently sold a nearly new one with it's original box, but perhaps I should have sold it for a higher price ;)

I had wondered the same thing myself Juan but stopped looking and went a different way with my Olympus OM2s SLR kit with 50 1.4 lens for an affordable high iso setup. I think I'm more a fan of rangefinders for daytime but found the Yashica ST7 handheld tripod stabilizer to be a great bonus for night time shots with my Yashicas.

Besides the Electros I already own always seem to surprise me at night. Some of the shots I've developed really had no right to be without camera shake.

My GL that I've been using for about 3 years now.

Yashica Electro 35 GL / Color-Yashinon DX 40mm F1.7

About a year ago, I bumped into a wall with it and dented its filter thread. I still regret my stupidity sometimes as it had been as pristine as new. Maybe I would get a donnar to replace its dentied chrome thread; GL is not that popular when compared to the GS/GT, but it's not so rare nor higher priced in Japan. My GL was about the same price as just a single roll of Neopan. lol

Here's a list of GL/GX on the Japanese auction site just for your reference. People here never stop throwing away their preciious cameras.

LunoLuno, you can get that dent out. I have a set of photos showing how I took two out of mine, and one of them was worse than yours.

Actually, the picture abobe is in the state after I fixed the dent. It was much worse than that. The dent was about 1 inch width and an angle of about 60 digrees off from its normal state. It was much worse than yours. But thanks, anyway. :)

Very nice cameras in this thread, congratulations!

Before seeing them here I did not care very much for the black Yashicas, but you've shown me the error of my ways (and now my wallet will pay the consequences).

In the meantime here's one of my GSN

Rare Yashica Electro M5

Rare Yashica Electro M5

Here's an unusual one: A Yashica Electro M5.

Shot from the top shows the unusual feature of this camera: three position aperture (indoors, cloudy, sunny) which give the three apertures, wide open, mid, and stopped down. There are no f/stops. Before full automation, this was an attempt to make photography easier.

Alas, this one will never expose any more film. Mark Hama very graciously examined the camera and tells me it has water/moisture damage and failed electronic parts. It's for the display shelf.
