I have tried to subscribe this magazine several times but no one answered my request. Anyone know what happens with this site.

I have sent 4 emails but do not respond
My daughter who worked for two years in Germany says the info@ email addresses are just there for show. My own experience with LFI was that a subscription arrived after I completed their web subscription form. After a couple years I got fed up with the magazine and tried to unsubscribe. That was a nightmare and took two more years to accomplish successfully. Just so that you know...

Internet and mail just arrived in companies. The most reliable way of communicating with companies is still a letter or a fax.

Well , I paid this , with my credit card ,but after 2 week they never make any charge.
I really dont know what happens here....

Things do take a while to happen with LFI. Also it's the summer and people are on vacation. Give them another couple weeks then check your credit card account again.

That or call them and ask about. But I can't tell you about how they manage customers. I'm one of the many who buys the magazine in the shop at bigger train stations or so.

I have a current paid subscription but my iPad no longer reflects this and I need to pay again if I want it on the iPad. Anyone know how to activate the electronic subscription?

Sounds like LFI is going down the drain. Or is it a language barrier? Too Bad. It used to be a good magazine.

New iPad version of LFI and still no mechanism to redeem my already paid access. Leica are pretty hopeless with software. I evefntually had an email from them. Also useless.

I subscribe on LFI. They gave me a couple of free magazines (4, I think) together with a soft button when I bought my M9. I later continued the subscription.

In my experience they answer my mail, but I was surprised that they continued my subscription and charged my credit card without my written consent.

I think they should ask people before they charge credit cards. I could have changed cards or wanted to use an other card. It is simple to send my a letter informing what they are planning to do at re-renewal.

But the magazine itself is great. The printing and paper quality are top notch. I like the articles, they have both technical Leica articles and some interviews with photo journalists with pictures. I especially like if they have old black and white pictures, I remember one article with pictures from the 60-ties in Sovjet.

The magazine is worth the money. I recommend it. If you buy some photo magazines in shops, such as as these at railway stations, you easily spend more money on silly test on new Canikon euipment than a year subscription on LFI.

But I think that the LFI administration is sub standard. I think I read somewhere that the magazine was sold off the Leica company. Perhaps that is an explanation.

The way LFI works these days is that once you subscribe they send you a letter telling you that you have a 1 year subscription but that it will be renewed the 2nd year without you doing anything and they will charge your CC. Then when the 3rd year comes around they will ask and send you a new bill and start the process all over again. You submit your info on line but after that everything else seems to happen by snail mail and it can take upto 4-6 weeks before you see a charge on your CC, if not longer.

It will happen just not in a time frame we are used to when doing everything on line, there is no instant satisfaction. And at the moment I think the magazine is worth reading.

The magazine is interesting. I do wonder at the editorial strategy of always having some gritty developing world story, right up to the inmates of the Indonesian asylum, to prove the go anywhere importance of the Leica and its users not focussing only on first world problems and subjects.

SUCCESS. I have now downloaded the Oscar Barnack Award issue. All issues are now $0.99 since activating my subscription. The winner's pictures of Tiksi in Siberia are magical, almost literally.

1. I found LFI in preferences in Settings on the iPad
2. I found that my subscription renewal email had a new subscriber number which I entered.
3. I needed to click in that preference window for the slider to be activated to ask me for a screen prompt from within LFI.
4. The new number required me to click on something to generate an activation email.
5. Within the activation email was a link on which I clicked and I received the message on screen that my subscription was activated.
6. Finally when I clicked on an issue it was for only $0.99 instead of $8.49 and I then enter my iTunes password and it is ready to LOAD.
7. It took me a while to realize that LOAD need to be clicked to instruct it to load.
8. I have the iPad 1. With the previous LFI app to downlaod or to read an issue frequently required me not only to kill the app, but to switch off the iPad entirely and restart. I did this before I understood the LOAD instruction. Hopefully it is unnecessary with the new app.

Having LFI on the iPad is great and I do like the magazine for its occasional gems like the Tiksi essay.

I get my hard copy of LFI from these guys in New Jersey: http://www.glpnews.com/EN/TP/LeicaE.html

I have always had good luck with this company, although the arrival dates of each issue are best taken with a grain of salt. Apparently LFI has to ship them over from Germany and then GLP can send them out to their subscribers.
