Hello,

I just picked up this weeks Amateur Photographer here in the UK and
noticed that they have an "exclusive" news item on the new CV cameras.
They say that "a source close to AP" has told them that CV will release
2 new rangefinders at Photokina next month and that "they are understood
to be based on Leica's legendary M6 model." There's a lot of padding in
the article about the R2 and M & L mounts etc. The only other bit of
info is that one of the cameras will be semi-automatic with aperture
priority.

So, the article seems to confirm what many people think that an aperture
priority version of the R2 will be launched, but what about the mystery
second camera?

Cheers

I'm constantly wondering why CV would make a camera with all kinds of doodads? Who needs AE, aperture priority, etc? To me the whole fun of the Bessas is that they are fully manual. The TTL metering is nice because it reliefs me of using a handheld meter but I'm glad the meter isn't connected to all kinds of auto settings.

But I too am curious to see what the new CV offerings will be at Photokina.

May it be a worthy Leica CL successor ? 😕

Let's start saving funds then ! I guess I'll survive only with cookies for a(nother) month... 🙄

One thing is for sure, if Mr. Kobayashi reads on-line forums, he must have been laughing hard for whole weeks now...

I agree, he is enjoying our anticipation. This camera better be good though.

A second new CV rangefinder! Huh?!?
Perhaps we should start taking bets on what the second camera is going to be...

That made me giggle, puts my poor student life into perspective when I have to shoot an assignment on 8x10.

Stu 🙂

My website? Which one...

Miniature painting? You mean my obsession with wargames?

OK, we think there will be two cameras. We know that as of this minute, they don't make any.

How about the R3 being a more refined R2, 100% manual, same more substantial body as the R4. R4, an AE wonderkin ala the M7?

Rover is right, whatever K san has in store for us they must be worth the suspense! I do hope Cosina would release the details of the 2 new cameras before Photokina! I wonder would there be new lenses that come with the bodies? 😕

I would guess that they will start updating the lens line adding M mounts. Perhaps lenses like the 50 Nokton, 75 Heliar, 90 Lanier and 28 Color Skopar would be easy places to start as the build and optical quality are good. Perhaps it would only take minor tweaks and the new mount to update these lenses.

That was the line in the spring of 2003. I may be wrong, but I am guessing that all bets are off and the new camera(s) can be anything.
