Hi!
I am only using Windows for image editing, the rest of my software, also for work, runs now entirely on Ubuntu. I have setup dual-boot now (UEFI), but was wondering - is someone here running LR and Silver Efex Pro with WINE (and no windows partition/installation) in Ubuntu?
Lightroom I can replace with Darktable, but Silver Efex is the crux.
Cheers,
Peter

same here.
if not dual boot (now), i used some virtual machine (like vmware player), which at least avoided the rebooting. however, some years ago that setup broke and i was too busy to take the time to repair it. and that's the status quo.
good luck, and i'm curious to see other approaches!
cheers,
sebastian

I have found the black and white film emulation modes in GIMP very satisfactory and replaced SEP nicely when I moved from OSX to Linux a few years past.
Darktable and RawTherapee still do not support the xtrans sensor from Fujifilm despite libraw doing so. I have therefore given up with those personally. However they can both replace Lightroom for you otherwise.
If you can leave the Lightroom and Aperture mindset for photo management aside, I recommend you try Lightzone. I now use it all the time partnered with GIMP and Shotwell for my images.

I don't have experience with Silver Efex Pro (I do run Photoshop Elements 2 successfully in WINE or Crossover on Debian), but XP in a virtual machine has handled all the proprietary s/w (e.g. for scanner) that I have needed so far. The vm way should give you a system that's as 'future-proof' as your release of Windows allows. Only very rarely do I need to boot-up directly to Windows for anything.
