Fuji's launching a black edition of this thing. The Verge has some details.

Would you get this? Now that the X-Pro1 is out, I suppose some would be thinking that there's really no point.

10.000 units is quite a large number as well. I would go for the X-Pro1 and cant understand why anyone would buy this for a 500$ premium over the chrome one. Or why anyone would buy this over the X-Pro1.

I think there is a place for X100 along the X-Pro1, but the X100 would simply deserve some real technical update (and call it X200 or whatever), not just color change. Price increase itself does not justify to buy the same camera for me. It looks nice in black though.

the price will come down dramatically, or they won't sell them. The same happened with the black contax G2 kits.

For Fuji to offer this camera in black in a limited run for an extra few hundred dollars sucks IMO. It's black paint for ****'s sake and should have been offered as an option from the get go at no extra premium.

This really is catering to western consumer stupidity ... and in reality is just a price gouge aimed at those who want some self obsessed level of exclusivity in their latest toy!

or why anyone would buy an m8 with those silly uv filters, or an m9 for $7000, or a huge bulky dslr like the new d4, or point & shoots, or or or....

guess that what makes the world go 'round.:)

btw, anyone know how much more a black g2 set goes for than the titanium set?

yeah, leica would never charge , say, $2000 to upgrade from a $10000 m9 to whatever an m9-p is, or how much to go from an m8 to m8+ whatever the heck that costly upgrade is called, right? and no one ever takes a cam and re-markets it as an 'anniversary' edition in slightly different outerwear but exactly same innerwear? yeah, i never heard of that happening.

and whats more self obsessedly exclusive than the leica club? (btw i have a leica cl and 2 leica lenses) ):

I wasn't suggesting that Fuji is unique here ... I'm just a little diisappointed that they're following this shallow trend.

And don't start me on Leica ... they are the worst offenders IMO! :D

man, you know, people'll buy anything. god bless'em.

ya know, embarassingly, ive been considering a 'black' g2 set myself...i'm sorry!:)

I was thinking about their latest offering!

I suppose it now gives Fuji the option of offering the XPro-1 in silver/chrome when the time is right?

Like you say ... it keeps the world turning. :p

Well, it also comes with a black fuji hood and adapter and black leather case. buying that stuff separately would still set you back a couple hundred bucks, but I personally wouldn't pay more for a black one. I actually like the silver anyway.

And as I suggested in a previous post ^ ... when the dust has settled and everyone has their new X-Pro1, some Fuji marketing guru will say: "Ok, it's now time to offer them the irresistable limited edition chrome body version. Leica did this and their loyal customer base snapped them up ... maybe we could even do a white one?

Our futures are planned by these people and they know our weaknesses! :bang: LOL

It would make sense to drop it 6 months ago. Not together with the x-pro 1 thats also black. I would probably have dropped 500$ extra for a limited edition black X100 a year ago, but not now when there is a newer black Fuji with interchangeable lenses. I like black cameras over chrome. What if Leica M8 only came in chrome and Leica dropped a limited edition (10.000 units) black paint camera the same day as they announced the black paint M9? If the X-pro only came in chrome I would have understood it more, but I cant really see that this is gonna sell?

I would have understood it if the black x100 was way cheaper than the X-Pro 1.

These will sell fine. To some people in the world, this camera is cheap. I'll stick with my silver one.

It may be consumer stupidty, but there's nothing "western" about it. I'm guessing the majority of the buyers will be in Japan, China/HK, overseas China (Taiwan, Singapore, & Canada/California), & the ROK.
