Limited Edition black X100

And there's not necessarily any stupidity involved, just different priorities.

Exactly... if you make a $500,000 a year, buying a $1799 camera is like someone who makes $30,000 buying a $100 camera off ebay. That's not even accounting for all the extra disposable income and different scenarios people get themselves into finance wise.

It may be consumer stupidty, but there's nothing "western" about it. I'm guessing the majority of the buyers will be in Japan, China/HK, overseas China (Taiwan, Singapore, & Canada/California), & the ROK.

And you don't think these mentioned countries learned their new found consumerism and capitalist tendencies from the indulgent west?

Huh? There's nothing "new found" about either capitalism or consumerism outside "the indulgent west."

I'm thinking of countries that have cultures that go back thousands of years ... and it's only been in the last half century or so that their populations have been indoctrinated by our excesses and our over indulgent lifestyles. Globalisation I think they call it!

It has it's up side ... and a down side IMO.

Count me as shallow too!
Those photos sure make me want to upgrade the ole chrome X100 also, even though I don't own a chrome X100. :D

I wouldnt get the black x100, since like some mentioned I am already planning to get the xpro1 which comes in black. If I were to buy an x100 it would be silver. But since I already have a silver chrome m9-p, the black xpro1 would complement my setup very well.

I've got one on order. It should arrive some time next week. When the X100 came out I wished that it was black, and that was one of the reasons why I held off from buying it. Now the black model has come out and I have no excuses any more!

I probably would have opted for a black one, given that they were available and both iterations the same price. Well, that didn't happen.

I'll keep shooting my chrome X100 which really doesn't know if it's chrome or black anyway.

Looks nice in black but I can't see any reason for the increased price ...

The black limited edition X100 comes with a black leather ever ready case lined in red, adapter ring, filter and hood, all in a presentation box. Then there's the fact that it's black ... ;)

The case is nice. Otherwise, it is stupid waste of money for black paint and filter/adapter/hood that I will never use.

... but I just bought one because in my area, all the standard X100's have serial numbers in the 11xx and 12xxx. There was no way for me to confirm I'm getting a 2012 model, unless I bought the Limited Edition.

I'd buy the black one for sure if it was available at the same time my chrome version was. Even for more money. I'd just sell the accessories on ebay and recover some of the cost difference. That black is sexy. As it stands, the camera is too cheap for what it is to begin with.

Well it looks like B&H now has them in stock for all us shallow lesser beings. Preorders are going out today. I like black versions, always have. Even owned a black Pentax Spotmatic, back in the day.:p
