I had a chance to look at the black version yesterday. Its very well done. And you do, in fact, get the hood/filter adapter, leather case, and black-rim filter. So in the end its only a $200 premium for the black version. This is a bargain if you like black gear.
If you get one, be sure to keep the cool packaging... I'm sure that'll add maybe $500 to the 'special edition' resale value 30 years from now!

Darn. I'm on a waiting list in Australia and they are not arriving until the end of March. Oh well.

10.000 units is quite a large number as well. I would go for the X-Pro1 and cant understand why anyone would buy this for a 500$ premium over the chrome one. Or why anyone would buy this over the X-Pro1.
Much smaller and lighter. Quieter shutter. Faster sync. Possibly better image quality due to the lack of interchangeable lens mount (alignment issues) and the fact that the sensor microlens geometry is optimized for one and only one lens. Less mechanical complexity.

Bought the Limited Edition and love it. Bit of a pig on batteries, but owning an M9 I'm used to toting three batteries around for a day of solid shooting. So far, I've experienced none of the issues discussed about the X100. AF is accurate and fast enough for my style of street shooting, the ability to adjust the size of the AF area is a bonus, the macro capability is much better than what I can achieve on any M lens, and I can actually use this camera in a church it is just so damn quiet. In fact, anywhere that uber discretion is required, the X100 has it all over the M. As someone who has owned a pair of M7's and M9's and a slew of M lenses, I must admit I am having more fun with the X100 than I ever have with an M. A sacrilege to state it I know, I love the Leica's, but Fuji has done a really really good job for their first kick at the can on this concept. The IQ is much much better than I would have expected for the price point. I traded in an Oly EP-2 which helped offset the cost of the LE X100....but to be honest, I would have coughed up the dough anyway for the ability to have a black finish and all the extra bits of kit included in a nicely packaged and finished product.

My black X100 arrived yesterday. I haven't shot much with it, but so far it has been super. I am sooo pleased that I hung out for the black version! The coating is almost like a glossy lacquer, and the lens barrel has a lovely shine to it.
AF and MF using the AF/AE button works well. Not as bad as a lot of people were making out. Startup is a touch slow, even though I'm using a Sandisk Extreme class 10 card, but I'm used to cameras starting kind of slow. I have a Sigma DP1. Nuff said.
The raws turn up an absolute treat in Lightroom. I'm amazed at how sharp the images are at 100%. The files seem very malleable and I am really looking forward to putting this camera through its paces.
WHY does Auto ISO have to be hidden inside twelve button presses, and not with the rest of the ISO values like every other camera does??? Even the old Fuji F30 put Auto-ISO with the other ISO values.
I absolutely agree that for discreet moments, this knocks the M9 and M9 into a cocked hat. The shutter is just so quiet it is marvellous. It is the near-silent aps-c compact camera I have been waiting for. Now if only Ricoh could do this with a GRD...

Interesting... I just went to the victorian alps for 3 days, and the battery lasted me two days of use, with heaps of EVF/panoramic mode use, and it didn't run out, I ended up changing to my second battery just in case...

I can't get that black x100 out of my head for the last 24 hours.....I will give it another 24 hours and if it is still the same I will have to give in....

An addendum to the comments about near silent operation. I just shot a few images of a work colleague from over the desk. Every other camera I have would have made enough noise to alert him. Not this one. So cool!!!

why anyone would buy this over the X-Pro1.
because the x-Pro 1 does not have a 23mm lens (equivalent to 35mm...)
that is an idiotic decision driven seemingly by marketing (not wanting to compete w/ the x100, or whatever) I want the XPro1 with a 35mm (equivalent) lens.
