Limited Edition Tripods ... seriously?

Well, if you are collecting special edition Leicas, what better way to display them than on an anniversary edition tripod from Gitzo.

The easy solution is to click on the 'unsubscribe' button at the bottom of the email. Then you don't get bothered by such ridiculous money grabs. 😀

I don't mind their emails ... nice to start the day by looking at what I can no longer afford. 😛

The founders/owners of Gitzo wouldn't likely do this. This is under the new ownership.

There's a sucker born every..

Vitec owns Manfrotto, and Manfrotto owns Gitzo. So, it's the usual money/marketing people doing this. Hurry up and buy one before there all gone!

It's not the first time.

It's not the first time.

10 years ago they made a 90th Anniversary Traveler Titanium GT90TT, which had twice the load limits of the regular Traveler. It cost $2,000 and included a nifty leather case the two new limited editions lack.

The $3,000 Arsène Githoven edition has a carbon fiber spider. It's a feat of materials engineering, but I don't know if I'd trust it not to crack from long-term stress.

The slightly more reasonable $1,500 version has a magnesium spider, but you don't get to have your signature laser-engraved on the leg. Considering the regulart GT1545T with ballhead costs $960, it's a 50% premium, but it's unclear what differentiates it apart from the leather strap and the serial number laser-engraved on the CF tube.

Everyone has limited edition version of a product at some point. I've seen limited edition toothpaste. Unfortunately, there are people out there that would ante up for this tripod.
