Linagraph Direct Print

I'm hoping Jorge will create a film-based forum at some point, but I'll stick it here for the time being.


I went to buy the large format lens I'd seen in Peter Gilbert's (vintage camera shop.. if you're in swindon, go take a look at the tiny shop with an amazing selection). I spoke for a long while about this and that.

Mr Gilbert pulled out a box "you can have this with my compliments, I can't quite remember what its used for".

Any idea's guys and gals?

Also got given a spray can of lacquer for it - to stabilise the linagraph.


Anyone used this crazy stuff? I'm about to google it.

Linagraph paper is a heat sensative paper used in high speed thermal printers. Both of which are obsolete, however it is also used by the laser industry for burn paper.

Is the stuff you have pink before the light gets to it too long? and then turn an off white on the emulsion side?

You might get some cash for this if you put it on ebay, not much maybe $70 US.

Paul, too late - I've already started using it. 😀

Had it for nearly a year, I want to use it for "arty" exposures as it's just about light sensitive. Same stuff as you describe though.

I know I'm digging up an old thread, but I just came across some of this paper myself. My safelight fogged it in a few seconds, so I had to do all my testing in darkness(fun). It's very fast. I have prints exposed for 4 seconds at f/11 that turn black if I leave them in the dev for more than 40 seconds or so. I was able to get useable results by snatching them from the dev after about 25 seconds the throwing them in the stop. I may experiment more tonight.

The emulsion is really delicate when wet. The white marks are from me/things touching it. They seem stable now that they're dry though.
