One of the recent threads yet again reminded us how hard is it to find a decent camera/photo store. So here is my proposition: share with us - where ever it is on this planet - a name of camera store where you were treated to your satisfaction.

Let me start:

Shop name: Fotogena

Country: Germany

City: Darmstadt (20km away from Frankfurt am Main)

Description: Medium sized shop, but well equipped - in particular in mirror-less section. They also carry Leica products. 35mm and 120 films too. Their stuff know what they are selling. You can get your hands on everything they have there (I played there recently with OM-D and the 12-35 lens). They give you time, they do not expect you that you actually buy a camera right away (I have been there several times).

Rent service: YES. I have asked recently and you can rent pretty much everything they have. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion (example - it would have cost me about 50 Euro to rent OM-D with the 12-35 lens for a weekend)

So please - share your GOOD experience.

If possible - please keep this thread informative.
 
Bernard Hunter, Bristol. Tiny shop crammed with all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff -- like the camera stores of yesteryear -- and run by Andrew who is an EXTREMELY nice guy. Very good for books and enlarger/projector/lighting bulbs.

The Camera Bar, in Hartford CT. Great service. A Leica dealer (also Nikon, Canon and Olympus). Pretty extensive assortment of used gear too. They do C41 developing (including medium format) in house; black and white they send out.
 
Well I can't say enough positive about B&H Photo in New York City. Been dealing with them for over twenty years. Great selection, fantastic prices, incredible return policy. They don't do processing or printing. But great for gear and film, etc.

Camera and Darkroom in Albuquerque, New Mexico before they moved then moved again.

Camarillo Camera in Camarillo, California. Gary is a fantastic guy and kept up the best shop. Too bad they closed years ago.

Haven't truly been satisfied with a camera shop (including the one I managed in 2007-2008) since 2005.

Blue Moon Camera & Machine in Portland, OR! Dedicated solely to film cameras, great darkroom, knowledgable & entheusiastic staff, & incredibly informed! Many used cameras & lenses. Plenty of film. Can't say enough good about them.
 
Pro Photo Supply in Portland, Oregon. Their used department is small but sometimes there are some great buys to be had. I bought my M6 +35mm Summicron, RD-1, Voightlander Ultron 28 1.9 while shopping there among other items.
 
In my neck of the woods (Vancouver BC), Kerrisdale Cameras and Broadway Cameras. On line, B&H, Tamarkin, CameraQuest plus all the RFF folks I've bought gear from...Cheers...Tony

Splendid little camera store with just the right mix of new gear (from m4/3 to Leica) and used; film and digital. Plus classes and a darkroom. Great staff - very knowledgeable, helplful, and enthusiastic. Their hiring manager must have a "No Grumpy People" rule.

Second, Rayko Photo in San Francisco. (http://raykophoto.com/) This place is not really a camera store. Its more of a gallery, darkroom facility, and photo workshop business. They do have a small selection of yummy camera gear for sale however (Nikon F, Leica and Voigtlander rangefinders, and large format). Like Looking Glass, this place thrives in my view because of its great staff of helpful, knowledgeable people. Their alternative photo processes and digital workshops are excellent. Their gallery curator has GREAT taste; brings very interesting exhibits there every month or two.
 
Kenmore Camera in Kenmore, Washington (suburb of Seattle on north end of Lake Washington). They do a nice job of processing film (C-41), sell various brands of film and have a good used equipment section for 35-mm, medium and large format gear. They also sell lots of accessories (lighting, cases, etc), as well as digital stuff (but you're not interested in that, are you?). They do a brisk business, generally half-a-dozen or so employees are busy handling customers. It's a real camera store that is doing well and worth a visit.
 
B+H in NYC, can't be beat for a big camera store.
Wing's Camera, Briarcliff Rd, Atlanta GA--great small store.
In business almost 100 years...still same family owned...
 
They guy who sells me my Leica parts in New Jersey at the factory there has to be the most helpful and reasonable guy I know. I probably took up an hour of his time to find and ship me a $10 part once.

Description: Large shop that caters to professionals, advanced amateurs and beginners. They do lots of CaNikony but have a pretty decent used selection. They do still sell film and various needs for film photography. They have lots of bags, some printer, etc. Last time I was there, I picked up a Nikon 28/1.8G when they first hit stores and no one had them and watched another gentleman carry out a D4 when they were in short supply. Excellent prices on everything in the store IMO.

Description: Large full service shop that many RFF members are familiar with. They do everything here: film development, scanning, sell refrigerated film 😀, prints, some repairs, etc. They sell everything. Tripods, lighting equipment, every conceivable type of camera imaginable including a cache of Leica's, printers, inks, papers. Their prices on lenses can be pretty high, but perhaps that comes with the territory. They are moving to a new, larger location soon. I get all of my C41 and E6 film developed here and they never let me down.
