LIST: camera store YOU were satisfied with

Shop: Bilderfürst

Location: Fürth, Germany (next to Nuremberg/Nürnberg)

Description: Leica Dealer with Artisan&Artist and Voigtländer stuff. Very nice staff. Selling new and used Leica. From R cameras and lenses to old and new M.

Their service is great. They helped me a lot when I had a hassle with Leica. I bought all my stuff from them

Map Camera in the Shnjuku district of Tokyo, Japan.

Map has a few small shops in the area, and they sell new and used gear. They have an extensive inventory of just about anything you could ask for. Noctilux? No problem, we have 3 in that case over there. Leicavit for an old MP? Here's a nice one still in it's original box. Black paint M2M? This one is brand new, still wrapped in plastic, and only 3,500,000 yen ($40k).

I also find Map to have the lowest prices on new gear, I got my LX5 and X-Pro there for 15% less than other stores were charging. I am waiting for them to receive the new Fuji X 14/2.8.

Also, their return policy is excellent, when my new Nokton came apart, they gave me a full refund with no questions asked. Getting a refund in Japan is not as routine as it is in places like America or Europe.

precision camera and video in austiin, texas

+100% for what huddy said:
"Description: Large full service shop that many RFF members are familiar with. They do everything here: film development, scanning, sell refrigerated film , prints, some repairs, etc. They sell everything. Tripods, lighting equipment, every conceivable type of camera imaginable including a cache of Leica's, printers, inks, papers. Their prices on lenses can be pretty high, but perhaps that comes with the territory. They are moving to a new, larger location soon. I get all of my C41 and E6 film developed here and they never let me down."

been treated like family there since first visit in 1979.

breathe, relax and enjoy.

Peace Camera in Raleigh NC. They have all my film needs. Lot's of good used gear. They let me walk behind the counter & get my load of film because my eye's are so crappy & can't read the labels.

B&H is less than an hour away and everyone knows about them so instead I'll plug Casey's Camera in Las Vegas. I was taxing to the gate when I realized that I forgot my cable release at home. No cable release would me star photos in Death Valley wouldn't happen. So I Google'd for a nearby camera store and found this store a few minutes from the airport.

I walked in and the place was pretty empty so I was immediately asked if I needed help. I told the woman behind the counter I needed a mechanical cable release. I was expecting a serious markup and was willing to pay it (I would have considered it an idiot tax) but wound up paying $14. While I was being rung up, I took a peak behind the fridge at their film selection. They didn't have exotic B&Ws like Adox, but they did have a few rolls left of Neopan 1600, a bunch of Ilford, some Kodak. They had 35mm, 120 and 4x5. They had a pretty decent color selection, too.

I stopped to look at a display case on the way out that had a Brownie, an early Lecia and a bunch of other older gear. It was nice to see something beyond an array of this quarter's new DSLR and P&S cameras. Even more surprising was finding all of this out in the desert.

I didn't stay long, next on my list of places to visit was In-n-Out!

Walch Optics in Hobart have always been great to deal with. Their professional and service orientated approach to their customers is very refreshing. Friendly, polite, helpful, accomodating. And genuinely passionate about photography and film, too.

The only overseas sellers I can give an unreserved endorsement of are Peter Loy, and KEH. Although KEH are not perfect, they've been very good to me with their descriptions and prices (I just wish their postage to Australia was lower, as you do need to spend up a bit to defray the AUD $59 minimum delivery charge).

Peter Loy seems to be one of very few equipment sellers who truly examines his stock closely, rates it carefully, and describes it accurately. I've had appalling experiences with one or two establishments recommended so far in this discussion, but as the thread is about customer satisfaction, not dissatisfaction, I'll hold my fire on naming those.

IMHO...Glazers is the better of the two for Leica gear.

Schouten Select Netherlands
Internet shop with accurate descriptions of their items
Reliable and trustworthy to send/wire funds to
Helpful and direct communication with Marco who quickly responds to emails
Very consistent customer service through the years, an enjoyable place to shop

Only dealt with them on the phone and internet, but I've had good encounters with:

Adorama (been a customer for years) - honest and reliable

Tamarkin - I experienced superb service and product from them in my one deal with them - I'd go back.

Burlington Camera in Burlington ON Canada. Between Toronto and Hamilton.
Good store with film and darkroom supplies.

I was going to post for this shop myself, but as is to be expected with a great shop, there are others who are happy with them as well.

They are a family run business, which I think is going into its 3rd or 4th generation now. In all of the times I was in the shop, they never tried to force a sale onto me, or talk me into something that I didn't come to them for in the first place. And even though the sale in the long run might have only been for $20.00, I always had their full attention.

I am so happy with them, I still make the six-hour round trip on occasion to buy my toys from them.

Cheers,

FotoPro Ganz, in the main station mall of Zurich.
