Little Cameras

Not sure if I'll get rid of it yet, but if I do, I might just get more than I paid for it in the US here in Chile. It'll be harder to sell, but... they go for $1000 or so new here (with the V being even more expensive). I paid $600 US with extra batteries, grip, chargers, etc.

Cool, John! Find out what's in demand and bring a camera or two with you when making a trip to NYC. I know Nikon has announced they are closing whatever sales situation they have in Brazil. A little extra cash will keep you in memory cards and dinner date money with your honey.

John, I don't know how you work. So, it's likely stupid to make suggestions. But, being stupid at times: a cheap APS-C camera that has a great sensor is the Nikon D5500. I think you like using a 50, so the DX 35 1.8 lens is an inexpensive choice and, a great lens. The D5500 on the used market is pretty cheap. If you want cheaper, a 5300 will work but, the sensor isn't as good. I did a bit of research into the sensor on the 5500 and figured I might get a couple or so if they perform as well as I think they will. The thing holding me back is, I use 35 and 28mm (ff) the most. And Nikon has no primes in that range that are small and a good lens is necessary to resolve that sensor. There are some good zooms but, then you have a big and more expensive camera.

So, am I nuts or are some of these “little” cameras pretty good. I would appreciate hearing from those of you with experience in this area.

Bill, I've been using Fuji APS-C sensored cameras for a few years now. I can only print up to 13 x 19, but the Fuji files look great at that size. I've gone smaller a couple of years ago when I took a Nikon 1 V3 camera with their kit 10-30mm lens to NYC for a few days of street photography. Those images look fantastic in 11x17 prints! If look closely at them I can tell that a small sensor was used, but at normal viewing distance the prints look as good as my Fuji-based prints. The quality of these little 1-inch sensor cameras is a surprise to me. 🙂
