I have been having problems with improper loading of Nikor reels such that the film sticks together and I lose the images where the film is touching. I dug out a device I had bought a while ago on ebay but never used, and it completely solved the problem.

Spiratone loader by John Desmond, on Flickr

This gadget is a Spiratone 128309 film loader, and it comes with guides for 35mm and 120 film. It threads the film exactly square into the reel- no buckling or skipping grooves, and no ruined images!

It is meant to be screwed down to a darkroom tabletop; I am limited to a changing bag, which makes it a bit trickier, but it works very well.

Cheers,

Spiratone was an amazing company, I miss them. I do think the current Tri X is harder to load. In the past three years I have started doing black and white again after a long time away. I want to shoot much more black and white this year. Joe
