Hi,

I am being offered an unused M8 (still in wrapping) w/ three batteries & charger, a M4, and an Elmarit 28. Total is 3750. Is this a good deal? I'd most likely resell the Elmarit (after doing some testing of course) and might keep the M4 for my photography course. I really would like a M8.2, but if the price is right I might go with this. Assuming the M4 is in great condition and I can sell it same price as I just sold my last M4 ($725), how much can I sell the Elmarit for? I am asking for more pics so I can identify the version.

Even better.... My local lab that I've used to scan film has a used in store demo M8 for 1795. Any upgrades *needed* to make this camera great? Cost?

EDIT: fixed price typo from 1750 to 1795. Includes 90 day warranty. Definitely going to the store after work.

I would grab the Demo M8. Does it have a warranty? Most Demo's do.

Vers 2.005 of the firmware is available for download, fixes some bugs. I like my M8.

Demo M8 for 1750 is a great price.

I can't say anything about your first deal tho, depends on the lens.

Yup, 90 day warranty. I'm too excited. Hopefully I get off work early today so I can drive down to the store and test it and pay for it. Checking the Leica website, it states that after buying an upgrade, warranty is increased by one year. From what I've read, the most important upgrade is the bright line frames, at 650 Euro. Is it worth getting this for the extended warranty? The sapphire glass doesn't really matter to me, nor the upgraded shutter. Or is this a case of "if not broken, leave alone?"

Dear Pavel,

The frames really ain't that important. You soon learn to compensate (I use M8 beside M9). Use it hard for 75 days. If it ain't gone wong by then, consider the upgrade. I've just been looking at some of my early M8 shots (January 07). It's still an impressive camera, technically even if not in terms of what I've done with it.

Cheers,

R.

nice deal!

Thanks. The camera is a joy to use thus far. I nearly jumped when I heard the shutter and winding mechanism. So loud compared to the late M4 and Mamiya 7ii.

Now it's time for me to search these forums on how to get the most out of this camera.
