Longest shutter speed in auto?

My manual says the auto shutter speed range is from 1/2 to 1/1000 but my CLE definitely goes down to 2 seconds. Is this just an error in the manual or what?

What you have read there is the EV range at a specific film speed and lens (in this case the 40mm f2). The shutter is capable of opening longer outside this range (just not accurately) or when other of the parameters change. Most of them do stay open up to 2 seconds and there is some variability in the electronics used through production as you sometimes find one that opens to 6 to 8 seconds.
