looked at an MP today

I've had a black chrome M4-P frm new and a black paint MP from new, and the difference is vast. To me, black chrome looks really ugly when it's worn (and it wears surprisingly fast), whle black paint looks really pretty (and wears even faster), but that's personal preference. I've had a black M3 and various black screw Leicas as well.

As for 'An MP is only an M2 with a meter', well, no, it's also 50 years newer and has a self-resetting counter and faster, easier loading, and quite a lot of other detail changes. I know which I'd rather have. In fact I own two M2s as well as an MP and the MP gets a lot more use.

Oh: and I had to straighten out the crank on my M4-P once after a (hard) knock. Never had a problem with a knob in about 35 years of M ownership.

Just took delivery on a new Leica MP a la carte and thought I would share my experience. The whole process, from order placement to delivery, took less than 5 weeks. I selected black paint and the traditional M3 rewind knob; very pleased with both. My motivation to go the a la carte route however was the .58 viewfinder. I wear glasses and like wide angle lenses and wanted the wider perspective of the .58 over the .72. I find the 35mm framelines just fill the field of view with my glasses on. As a first lens I chose the 35/f2 ASPH which seems about perfect for this camara. It is small enough that it does not block the viewfinder image as a larger (faster) lens would. Price was exactly as specified on the Leica website. All in all, I wouldn't change anything.

If you want to save some cash (as others have noted) pick up an M6 instead of the MP. A lot cheaper, and with the exception of the rewind knob and advance lever, functionally the same.

I prefer black chrome to the black paint finish, but thats me. I also am perfectly fine with the new still rewind knob. I like my M7.

I have both MP and M7, love MP more. I will wait for a special edition to come up then buy one or town sets for collection. I bet it retains more value than any stocks-🙂
