During the recent boom years in Iceland, when naive confidence in free-flowing credit and crass 'financial vikings' reigned, the building industry ran rampant. The small town I grew up in, close to Keflavik international airport, exploded with new concrete boxes.
But by the sea, nothing new stirred. The old fish factory, in which I worked for a summer when 12 years old, is derelict and sad. Not much use for it but it isn't quite abandoned. I took a walk on a blustery day when visiting Iceland earlier this fall. I carried the Hexar AF, with a Fuji 100 film. Not the right film for the contrasty conditions (I felt most photos were overexposed and needed quite a bit of pulling back in Lightroom) but gives the photos a harsh, uncompromising quality.
