"Flim? You want flim?"
Thanks all. I see KEH has one for $199 now, oil on curtain, but I'll gamble, I think.

I second the ebay seller "jiri_e". I bought mine from him. He seems to have a steady stream of Canon P's.
He has a black one for auction now, droooooooool. Its so pretty! And that famous 35mm f2 Canon lens is shown on it. Gah! Here's a picture for all those lovers of the mighty "P".

Sorry, I see that I have repeated myself on this thread...too eager to help, I guess.

I saw that black one, sirius, but $2k is a little over my budget. I plunked down $199 to KEH for the oilly curtain camera body, hoping it turns out as well as everyone here seems to assure me. Thanks for the recommendations.
I think I'll try it out with my Industar 61 L/D first. I love that lens!

As nice as that black Canon P may look, I still prefer the original chrome body. Even at $300 - the Canon P is a good value.
Also, with regards to Januaryman's quest for a Canon P for less than $199 USD, I doubt that he'll find one any time soon. The Canon P is an extraordinarily well made camera with a classic feel and excellent ergonomics.

I sold one on Ebay for $192,50. It was even CLA'd. I think the prices are dropping.

That is a liquidation price. Seriously, you should have set a reserve price.
I sell gear at liquidation prices most of the time, but I prefer to be the one to set the floor and if doesn't sell, try again at a later date.
Epay is a buyers market during the summer months - July and early August. Prices pick up during the winter months.

camera$ on Ebay is just another ripoff merchant looking for suckers. I wouldn't p**s on him if he was on fire. Jiri Ecer (ID: jiri_e ) is probably the best seller of Japanese Leica copies I have come across in five years on Ebay, and he runs his auctions very fairly with only high starting bids on premium cameras like black P's.
But I've never understood the lure of black cameras when much cheaper identical chrome models are available.
When I bought my first focal plane shutter camera in 1961 I was told to keep my fingers religiously off the curtains. It's a shame more buyers weren't given this advice, but perhaps there were a lot of hamfisted buyers out there.

I tried to sell it here on RFF for several months for a reasonable price. Nobody reacted. Ijust wanted to get rid of it. I did set a modest starting price. At least somebody will be happy now. It is always sad to see a nice camera sittng on the shelf.

Weell, I figured, what the hell. I got the P in the mail anbd it is great looking. Well worth the price. I have film in it to try it out. I did notice that it alloqwed me to advance to the next frame before me snapping the shutter - happened accidentally twice. Is this common?
Guess I'll try to [polish off my first roll and see the results. I post it when it comes back. I threw on my old Industar 26M just to play with. More later.
Thanks to all fdor the information and suggestions!

I saw that one , but since it most definately needs a CLA to fix some issues I think that the price is higher than I am willing to go. I'm sure he'll find a willing buyer though.
And besides, I've reached the point where I need to sell some stuff before I acquire more.

Finished my first roll from my $199 Canon P from KEH. Thanks for your help, folks! Beautiful camera, no real issues, very clean and with an Industar 26M mounted, I took this test shot indoor, eyeballing the light and crossing my fingers. The shot is framed badly, but I could not move back further from the display. So this is it.

If that is Ilford XP2, try rating your film at ISO 200 to 250. You will be much happier with the results. Underexposed XP2 can have a blotchy grain. Nice to see a new P user here, keep shooting and sharing. cheers

That exposure definitely looks to be spot on the money and Joyce Schaum's name is sharp as tack at the edge of the frame, too. PDG for shooting without a meter.

sirious - thanks for the recommendation. I may try that when I get more XP2
solinar - thanks. beginner's luck with the exposure. The Canon was pretty easy to focus with the patch being easily visible. The Industar 26M was a revelation for me. A toss in when I bought a Fed 2d body.

Did you find that at KEH under Canon or Leica Screw Mount? I'm still thinking of a P, and $199 seems like a good price. I'm getting tired of Fleabay prices...
