Looking for affordable lenses

I actually agree that the 75 and 90 are a little redundant. Unfortunate for me as I am thinking of selling my CV 75 (and replacing it with a 90).

Well, I have been so fascinated with 'super' fast primes, and love 50mm focal length.

I currently use Canon and Nikon DSLR bodies and have the Canon 50mm f1.0L and Nikon 58mm f1.2 Noct.

The reason for the Leica Noctilux is I wanted the three fastest primes available, to use this lens, I needed to get the M6 RF.

Can we take it then, that a Canon 7 with the 50mm f/0.95 lens is next on the list? 😀 😀

HI everyone,

I just shot my first roll of 'test' film using the 90 tele-elemarit. I only wanted to test sharpness, and overall performance of the lens, without really looking for the 'perfect' portrait picture.

Now, I have not used film in a while since going DSLR, and when I went to pick up my film at the 1 hour place, the lady developing my pictures asked if she can use several pictures for them to put on the mugs, enlargments to use for their store promotion. I was pleasantly surprised, and by her request, and honestly by the pictures, not all of them were good, but the ones that are are quite nice.

my next step is to scan the negatives and process it in PS CS, and print out on epson 2200 to see how it compares to my DSLRs.

On another note, the roll for the Noctilux needs alot of work.. most were shot in low lights using f1.0, but the pics were a bit blurred, so I need alot of practice with this lens.

This is my first experience with RF, and have lots of adjustments and learning to do, but I am very excited.. already have another roll in the camera, and ready to go..

The CV 90's reputation matches the excellent 75's and although faster, I rarely use the 75. The 90 will be a second lens to throw in the bag with my M3 with mounted 50. The 90mm framelines in the M3 are a close match to the 75s in the M6. Both lenses focus to 1 meter which means the 90 will give me a tighter crop.

Since I don't use the 75 that much, and perhaps will not use the 90 much either, I can't justify having both. With the M3 and the reasons I stated above, I think the 90 makes more sense for me. And since I won't be using it extensively, the CV 90 delivers a huge bang for the buck for me. Slower than a 90 TE, but about the same size, similar image quality, and cheaper.

the framelines are different because a difference in finder magnification or framelines for different focal lengths?

maybe something longer then, like a 135? would be something you might use more.

do you mostly use the 50 and leave IT on your camera?
i use the 35 almost exclusively now. i started to carry the 85 every time i head out but i don't seem to like it much anymore. (maybe it will pass)

i'm looking forward to having another camera again as i want to try carrying both a 35 and a 50 at the same time. i have a feeling that will be my combo, for now anyway.

I normally walk around with one camera, a 50 and 35. The 75 hasn't been out in the sunlight since November. With the M3 now in hand I would go out with the M3, 50 and 90. I don't think a 135 would do as the framelines are so small, even in the M3.

The difference, or reason that the 90mm M3 and 75mm M6 framelines are similar, yes is the magnification of the viewfinder.

Here are a couple of first shots from the Noctilux and 90 tele-elmarit.

May I ask what is the 'best' film to use for RF? I like to do people portraits.

I am currently only Kodak max 400 color film

Color? I don't like the Kodak Max films. I would jump to the Kodak HD or Fuji for over the counter stuff. Kodak Porta 160 or 400 VC is my favorite though. I actually haven't shot 35mm color in a while though.

yeh, I wanted some film fast to try out and went to a pharmacy near my house...(and they were on sale)

I will go ahead and order some film from B&H.

I need to ask is there a big difference in B&W negatives and PS color desaturation?

I have read a number of articles stating that in fact color film desaturated is a good way to go to get B&W if you are looking for digital images from color negs. Color film generally scans better than B&W, the grain is finer (?) and because a color image captures more colors than monochrome captures shades of grey perhaps there is more details to be displayed.

My recommendation would also be CV 35/2.5 and then a 90mm lens and that is all you really need. My brother picked up a Hector 135 for me at a stupid garage sale price. I am happy with Cosina Voightlander lens quality and while working full time and a student part time, the Price is right for me. Leica lenses though really nice are out of my reach for now. I do have a 50/2 Summicron collapsable and a 90/4 collapsable that came with my dad's M3.

I would agree with you Bill. I took a Canonet and a Leica on vacation recently. I took five lenses for the Leica but once I figured out that the 40mm on the Canonet and the 90mm on the Leica were a killer street shooting combo the 90 stayed on the Leica and the others I had brought hardly got a look in. 🙂

For color I use the Fuji Supermarket, er Superia 400 almost exclusively. I like it better than the Kodak consumer and it's so much cheaper than Portra it's not even funny.

ok, just picked up a CV 35/2.5 Pancake II .

Need to ask, I also like a nice compact 50mm walk around lens, and use the noctilux when I need to.

to go along with the CV 35/2.5 and Leica 90 tele-elmarit thin.

The latest 50/2.8 Elmar-M collapsible is what I use 90% of the time. It produces crisp, clear images much like the old Zeiss Tessar but with more uniform edge to edge performance.

Leica Elmar-M 50mm/f2.8

Leica Elmar-M 50mm/f2.8

Agree with Richard completely. Also it gives a nice warm color rendition. The attached pic was taken with the Elmar-M at f4.

thanks for all your sound advices,

anyone has the latest 50/2.8 Elmar-M collapsible that they wish to pass along, please let me know.

I just got the Billingham M bag, which fit nicely with the bodies and these lenses, is there a nice 'affordable' half body case besides the Luigi (which I like the leather look) that I can use for the M6 classic.

Then I think I am done....
