I have a Voigtlander 75mm heliar LTM lens, with the LTM-to-M adapter.

I'm looking for an older-style camera body for this lens. I already have Bessa R3a, T, and L bodies for use with other lenses. I'd like to try something different with the 75. And I don't want to spend more than about $300. Cameras that come to mind are Canons, Zorkis, Feds.

I'll likely use a add-on viewfinder, so clarity/size of the camera's viewfinder is not critical, so long as I can focus the lens. I don't have to have a lever winder. I'm not sure about bottom-loading. I've never had a bottom-loader, and from what I read here, this type of film loading is a pain in the neck. Speed of operation is not critical, as I'd be using this lens mostly for portraits and other "static" scenes. And a smaller body is nicer than larger.

Any suggestions?

Thanks... yes, I looked at the RFF classifieds. Regarding the Canon 7 line of bodies, I'm shying away from those at the moment simply because they are significantly bigger than the P or IV, V, VI bodies.

Bigger the P and VI bodies, yes, but significantly? Debatable. I had a CV 75 heliar, and it balanced nicely on the Canon 7. Use the 85mm framelines and just frame a little loosely. A Canon 7 in really nice condition will be easier to find w/in your budget than will the other Canon bodies you mention.

Hi there, Roland. You seem to always be having some impact on my GAS-iness these days (I'm very much enjoying my 28/3.5 Color Skopar, thanks to your advice). 🙂

I'm trying to figure out, with some difficulty, what the experience using one of these older bottom-loading rangefinders would be like. And how it would compare to my Bessa T, which I've grown to like a lot. I'm going to try to find someone nearby that has one of these older Leicas so that I can feel it, hear it's shutter, look at the film-loading process, and have a look through the rangefinder.

I'm assuming that what I'll find is that, compared to the Bessa T, the Leica shutter is significantly quieter, the 'build' will feel much more solid, the rangefinder is similar, and that the film loading is a pain that can be lived with. Would that be your impression, assuming you've had a Bessa T in your hands?

Hi Jamie,

Pretty much. And it's tiny (smaller than the T) and you do have a 50mm window, that you can actually use for 75mm, if I remember right.

It's a chick magnet, too 🙂
