Hello,
New to the forum here, based in Italy and looking for an Epson rd1, open to sellers or suggestions. Looked everywhere, only place where I could find a couple was on eBay but from japansese sellers and that cost upwards of 2300/2600€ with import taxes. Is that the best price I am gonna get? Any suggestions very welcome.

Sadly, I have no helpful advice to offer, @Jakk_ . :( All I can tell you is that I can't find a single R-D1 for sale on any of my 'standard' list of suppliers. This camera appears to be virtually non-existent in the UK. I guess this means that - if an R-D1 were to turn up, for sale - the price would be very high, and I presume that the situation would be much the same in Italy, too.

Sorry that I have nothing more helpful to offer.

Why would anyone want to pay so much money for a camera with the same sensor as nikon d100 ? The one costs 50-100 euro and the other 25 times more. I would understand it if the price was 500, at the time a leica m2 costs around 1000 and a leica cl 400euro. Its like some other cameras like the old voightländers where in 2000 no one wanted them because they were prone to break and the price now is like a leica one. Or like the Hexar rf etc. Just because they accept the m lenses doesnt mean you are buying something really good. They are expensive for what they are and for the price one can get the leica m9. But thats just my opinion and not my money.

It is an rf and you wind it manually. It is rather something rare and therefore also special, hence the price. I think EU buyers are in a bad situation. If I were you, I‘d consider an M8.

I bought mine some 16 years ago and even then the Epsons were short in supply and high in price. Also at that time, most were offered by Japanese sellers.

Bad times to look for an r-d1 but great times to buy something like a Nikon D80//D200 that had the 10Mp CCD .

I recently bought a mint D80 for 75£ because i know my r-d1 will not last forever and i will never have another.

I won my r-d1 on an ebay auction for 410£ in 2017 and it is my favourite camera but no hobbyist camera is worth more than 1500$-2000$. Keep an eye out for a reasonably priced M8 i would say.

Even m8 is too expensive and old now. Rangefinders are expensive and we all know that, especially the ones that accept the m lenses, because thats the reason that those cameras exist. If i was going the m lenses camera route id start with at least an m10, m9 is also old and i read all the time about problems that are coming from the age. I also dont know if leica still services them, cause for example the leica apsc dont get any repair anymore.I had the d70 and was a great camera. Not so beautiful like the ones we are talking here but very very good cameras.

there is an RD-1 for sale on fb in the Leica Classifieds group.

Seller in Dallas.

Honestly I am still evaluating if it’s worth to spend so much money on something like that but it’s so unique and I’ve wanted it for so long. Also considering m8 but it’s not that cheaper here and that manual wind is too sexy. Sensor wise it’s not that great of a sensor but honesty if I just want a good sensor I’ll use one of my Fuji x trans and get much better results. Getting a bit bored of those and wanted to try my first rangefinder.
