Looking for writers.

hello jorge,

just an idea,
i can translate the content into Chinese/Mandarin, that would widen up the readership quite a bit, i suppose? and like-wise the zine in other languages

i have been contributors to pop culture magazine, and newspaper culture suppliment in Hong Kong

cheers!

A Japanese connection could be a good idea as well, there seems to be a huge interest in RF photography there.

My Japanese is reduced to say 'ichigo no jam', but let me know if you need help with the Spanish connection.

As for me, should you want to hit the french speaking part of this world, I can be your man. And of course, I'm in as well for writing. Reading too much in this forum. Time to write now! No rates of course...

I like this idea. A publication of this sort should concentrate on strong, coherent editing, because there would be a tendency to rely on many contributors for the content. I'd also recommend, if it focuses on film, that it cast a large enough web to include "traditional styles" in photography, even if the capture is digital. There also should be regular features about the passion of traditional photography. Stephanie Brim's recent essay "on photography" comes to mind.

Like several others, I'm a professional writer-editor and probably don't have the time to devote. But I wouldn't mind contributing.

Gabrielma, Back Alley, I apologise for having forgotten your names. I have not, however, forgotten that there is a biological and etymological connection between "pissed" in the Brit. sense and "free flow".

I'm in. Rates...we don't need no stinkin' rates" What is reasonable to you. I'd do it for free to help get it going.

Sounds nice. I've written professionally, before, too. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know what sort of stuff you're expecting.

There's some fiction on my website, if you want to get a rough idea of the style.

Unfortunately I can't offer translating anything into German, because I've never quite gotten the hang of German grammar and its labyrinthine intricacies.

How about a relatively new rangefinder user writing as she learns more and more about the equipment? 😛

(Note: I'd be happy to take some time and write, even free for a while. It'll give me something to keep my mind off a few problems that are rearing their ugly heads in my life right now.)

I'm a journalism major, and I freelance when I'm home, so if you still need another writer, I'll work cheap (or free). It helps me out when I have a variety of things in my portfolio, plus it would be fun. I've been working on an article about shooting rangefinders while on PJ assignments, and another one on what equipment to buy as a college student (photo classes, school newspapers, etc.) in my spare time for a website I was going to build.

If you need somebody to test some ZF lenses, I have a Nikon F2 that wants to play, so ship some to me...I'll even send the lenses back when I'm done🙂. I'll look over the ZF 50/1.4 and compare it to my Nikkor 50/1.4 AI. If someone has a Nikkor AI 85/1.4, I'll do a comparison for the ZF85/1.4, too (I don't have one).

I have written professionally in the past (ok not on English but my spelling is quite reasonable so I feel I can do it)

About rates: let's say that if the project takes off, and money starts to come in, then I'll stop doing it for free.

The most difficult part is to have something interesting to say.

and mine is limited to "domo arigato, Mister Roboto"

I'd be willing to throw my hat into the ring if I could write with Brett. I think we may have the same line of thinking; which may be bad or good depending on your point of view 😀

Cheers

As for a plan, Jorge, you'd probably want an over-all editor, with several columnists who have areas of expertise. You could then have a different monthly guest column to tap into all the offers made here so far.

Sumi-masen. Watashi-wa bakka desu.
(Excuse/forgive me, I am but a fool.)

yeah, that would probably be a natural collaboration (altho I don't think I want to be a collaborator)

my view of a successful magazine of any sort is to have writers covering at least 4 different styles in every issue.. technical, current events, inspirational, and humorous

Jorge, how often do you plan to update the 'zine? if it's more than once a month, you probably will want backup writers for each genre.. I used to put together a monthly newsletter for a local organization and after a few months the subsequent 4 weeks flew by way too fast.. it seemed like I was always working on the next issue

Also 2 separate post-production columns: traditional darkroom, and digital output
Please don't leave out the traditional darkroom one.
