I have owned a Contax G2 with 45mm and 28mm lenses in the past and I'm now looking to buy a Contax G1 as they seem quite reasonably priced. My only concern would be if the G1 did not focus as well as the G2 in lower light levels. So was wondering if anyone with a G1 out there could comment on this. Otherwise, I will save up more for the G2.
Thanks in advance, swelter

It has an active IR scheme for low light so should be ok?

Hi smudge
I have a G1 (green labelled) and I have stuck with this through thick and thin as the G2 layout never felt right to me. I do alot of event work and my G1 with a 35mm lens is great for those candid casual moments.
Its coped well with weddings and all the usual but recently I have taken to using it for my first love of band photography. I use a 800 / 1600 film for the shutter speeds but it always auto focuses spot on, even in the darkest dingiest nightclubs I know.
So I really wouldnt worry about the low light as after 6 years of pro use I've not found it to be an issue.

Thanks to all who responded to my question. I will now search for a G1 with 45mm lens in the UK.

Hi, Smudge. Were you by any chance in Aperture in Museum St. on Saturday afternoon asking about G1's?

Matthew do you have any shots of the bands taken with your G1? I asked some time ago whether anyone had used their G1/G2 for band shots but nobody replied. When I go to my local club I usually carry my Pentax Espio Mini with 800ISO film (one or two pix in my gallery) and that's quite good at handling the lights. Would be interested in seeing some of your pix.

Hi Mark
I know the shop well, but it wasn't me in there on saturday. I've been looking to buy on the auction sites and here, RFF.

One went on the bay last night for 82ukp - I was tempted myself...there are some good prices around for buyers of Contax gear on auction sites - but prices remain much higher in stores like ffordes...
Good luck in your search
David
