Hey folks,

I've checked out KEH.COM but I can't tell what version of the Summicron is being advertised.

Also, what about the lenses made in Canada? Is there any difference between that and one made in Germany?

Any other websites to check out for used gear besides rff, photo.net, eBay?

Thanks.

KEH has served well for my many Contax RTS purchases. For Leica shopping, however, they don't provide adequate details, so I use eBay instead. Serious eBay sellers of Leica gear always reveal serial # in the description, or in the pics.

Hi,

I would call them and they will get the lens in question out of the warehouse and you can then discuss the lens with the salesperson on the phone.
Will take afew days but well worth it.

Ciao

You can call KEH and have them pull the lens from stock. They will describe it over the phone and check any details you'd like checked. I usually have them pull a few out and they will describe the size and location of each ding and scratch (I always buy bargain stuff).

I don't think there is any real difference between Canadian and German summicrons.

The only difference between the canadian and german lenses is people are willing the pay a lot more to have made in germany writen on their lenses. Otherwise there are no differences. Dont discount them cunuks, they knew their stuff as can be seen with the noctilux.

Call keh, I have delt with them on the phone and found them to be excellent.

KEH lists the older versions 1, 2 and 3 as simply "Summicron", and the 4th version as "Summicron-M". Thus:

A chrome Summicron (Germany) would be a v.1 (8 element), and a chrome Summicron-M (Germany)would be a v.4. If it says (-rangefinder) it means the one with eyes for the M3.

A black Summicron (Germany) would be a v.2, a black Summicron-M (Germany) would be a late v.4.

A black Summicron (Canada) could be a v.2 or v.3 (if there's a picture, the v.2 has a tab on the aperture ring), a black Summicron-M (Canada) is a v.4

There is no difference optically between a v.4 Canada and a v.4 Germany. The lens was in production when Leitz became Leica and moved from Wetzlar to Solms and consolidated much of the assembly from the Midland plant to Solms as well.

I agree, no difference in use, only in price to collectors.
