Looks like KEH may have done away w/ classic site look today

I fully agree that the new site makes it very hard to find what you are looking for. I posted up on their Facebook as well.

Go to there Facebook page and voice your opinion.

I did.

Peace

Setting up a facebook account just for that would be a pita. :)

There are plenty of small brick and mortar camera stores that have an on-line presents. Dealing with them helps keep (someones) local businesses viable. As for chemistry, paper and the like Photographers Formulary, B&H, and a few others do me just fine.

BTW, did I dream this, or did they not recently come under new ownership?

Not a dream. (from a fortune.com release. ) January 2013 "D Cubed Group has acquired a majority stake in KEH Camera, an Atlanta–based photographic product dealer"

I have to assume that before turning off the old site, they must have looked at traffic and $ spent through each channel. Having done so, they probably decided that they no longer cared to be a default destination for the used gear shopper :)

Having done business with KEH since they still had a showroom [sometime in the mid-80s] through the past couple of months, I went looking for a lens for the M-cameras. I got tired of wading through layers and complicated searches. I ended up ordering from CameraWest. I am thinking of deleting my bookmarks for them...Maybe we can start a thread of lost websites to join the list of closed camera stores.

KEH has changed owners. Standards have been lowered too. I purchased several lenses eay this year and returned them. One was a bargain grade 400 f3.5 nikkor that was total trash. It has been used so much the focus was worn out and the aperture clicks gone. There were several large deep scratches in the front element that would have effected the image I also returned two ex grade Nikkors that had obvious impact damage. I'm guessing they had been dropped. Just two errors ago I bought a Minolta CL off their eBay store. I specifically asked if the meter worked, was accurate and if there was haze in the RF, aligned properly and shutter working properly. The answer was everything is working properly. When I received it it looked almost new but the meter was jumpy and never would read the same twice. The RF was also off. I returned it for an exchange and have not received it yet but should tomorrow. For some strange reason they shipped it 2 day fedex air and I'm only one day away via ground service. Strange way to do business. I found it's almost impossible to reach someone that works the eBay store. It's handled separately from the regular KEH store. After this years experiences I may start buying from other sources.

KEH has certainly changed over the years. I started buying when they first opened on Spring St. They were in an old house and you could go by and ask to see specific items. They would bring a tray of whatever you wanted and you could pick and choose. That was good and the showroom on 10th street was great. Unfortunately it's not so good now.

I second Camera West as a good source. I was in the old Monteray store several times and bought many items. They are professional and very conservative in rating. You can always depend on the quality you receive matching the description.

Oh no, but thanks for that. You put the folks with calculators up front and you are doomed! :(

FWIW, I just got a direct reply to my complaint about the site from KEH's sales manager. She indicates they're still developing the site (then why take down the old one, or even go live with the new one?!) but doesn't say a word about restoring the classic site. Combined with the change in ownership, I am not hopeful.

I will say that my one transaction with Camera West was very good overall. They seem like a reasonable alternative.

My post from the concurrent KEH thread: "I just had an email conversation with KEH that I would classify as NOT very warm and fuzzy. It almost feels like an old friend that fell into a bad vice."

I kinda' got the vibe that there is just a wee bit of turmoil behind the scenes at KEH.

There is a similar thread over at APOG and KEH has responded to an email in a very un-professional way!

KEH got back to me:

"We are sorry you feel that way however we respect your right to choose.

Thank you for letting us know."

Not cool at all.

Peace

Agreed. In my post just above you, the response I received was what I would consider unprofessional. I think a lot of folks are taking heat there.

Well, at least the email I got was courteous and professional (grammatical error aside). It would seem there's some turmoil at KEH right now. Probably good for my wallet....
