Loose 5cm Finder

I've just got hold of a 5cm Finder for my 111a, the problem is it's incredibly loose in the hot shoe how can I remedy this.

One or more of the detachable pieces from the end of an Ilford film box works well as a shim in my case.

You can either pound down the rails on the accessory shoe (not recommended), or use tape on the bottom of the viewfinder's foot.

Tape will probably stretch and tear, ZF, or get bunched up. FPJ's scheme is better, though I shall add that Fuji and Kodak and so on should do as well as Ilford. I speak as a once heavy user of FP4 and Microphen.

Pounding down, if that should be necessary, must be done with a soft mallet -- wood, nylon, etc. -- and very, very gently.

[edit] Goes without saying that if other things fit well, there's nothing the matter with the shoe.

There's a reason that the IIIc has a spring-loaded accessory shoe. So do the Canon screw-mounts.

Some finders have a slot along one side of the shoe, so that you can pry it a bit wider, for a tighter fit.

I cut a little square of plain paper as a shim for my Leica II, works fine.
